Does this work SSP, or is it a purely server tool?

I'm not really a wimp or wuss, but I am lazy. The first mods I usually add to a modpack are Treecapitator, EnchantView, and Ellian Detector. Oh so lazy I am.

I'm tremendously lazy, so I usually end up installing Thebombzen's EnchantView mod and keep trying with the same pickaxe over and over until I get the enchantment that I'm looking for.

Hopper between chest and machine? Seems to work for me. Set the top color to red with the configurator (red is usually the input iirc).

That's pretty much my process. I use WinMerge because it's free. The only thing I haven't tried to figure out is, if you don't like a particular update, how to properly revert back to a previous version, and have the launcher recognize it as that previous version. Haven't needed to do that...

I've used Treecapitator with FTB and RR with no issues beyond some tools not capitating trees, and some trees not being, um, capitatable. The errors seem to indicate corrupted files. I would try redownloading them and see what happens.

And then I usually end up clicking the wrong mouse button, and end up having to walk back that 800 blocks anyway...

The problem that I've seen is that if the inventory that the machine ejects to gets full, the machine just plain stops ejecting, even if space opens up in the inventory. This gets annoying when you're doing the whole ore-tripling process. The workaround that I' m currently trying is to have...

So what happens with pack updates? From what I understand, you have to re-add the mod(s) with every update, as at least the mods directory seems to get cleared out.

The beta of Minutor supports mods. And I like having a map auto-update when I'm playing single player. The map will show villages and nether fortresses before I can see them.
