Did you make any changes to the minecraft.jar or change it out for another? It appears to be an error while checking the minecraft version. Backup any saves and configs you have and try a force update and let the mod pack download again.

Not sure about getting it to fully use the processor. What is the error log when it crashes. If it is out of memory try adding some arguments. If it is any other error please post a server error log or server log to pastebin.com and link to it here for us to look at.
