i just noticed something wierd. when i ping www.creeperrepo.net from here in the UK, i get a totally different IP address: Pinging a second time gets me the same ip as you have: in any case, if you cant ping that server, something on you system is blocking it try opening usa.creeperrepo.net...

in the settings tab of the launcher, check both the "show console" AND "reopen launcher after exiting minecraft" boxes. this way the launcher will reopen after a crash an you can use the "post to pastebin" button to get a link to the log you can paste here

the error it gives it actually nothing at all to do with FTB, minecraft or even Java. its an error windows is throwing back at java: java.net.SocketException: Unrecognized java.net.SocketException: Unrecognized Windows Sockets error: 87: create: create from what i found on google, its an error...

this means that someting on your PC is Blocking access to FTB's hosting servers (they use creeperhost) in most cases it will be your firewall or you "browser safety" feature (if you have one)

i cant help you there. i've never used avast

i believe its actually the browser protection features, because all the update checks are done over HTTP

i'm assuming a base knowledge of windows and computers in general, so i hope this makes sense. open a command prompt and type or paste this: ping www.creeperrepo.net then post the results

there is a know issue with Avast in that some part of it blocks connections from the launcher. if you're not using Avast, check the the launcher is allowed through your firewall.

if you can find the crash report located at: <Your Install Location>\Direwolf20_1_6_4\minecraft\crash-reports i will give you some cake* you can find your install location in the settings tab of the launcher :) *cake is a lie alternatively, if you select the "show console" and "reopen launcher...

select the "create profile" option and then enter your minecraft username and password to login. yes, its really that simple :)

when the Java EXE crashes, not the Jar its running, most of the time its your graphics drivers where minecraft is concerned. a crash report would be more helpful though...

yes, MCEdit is meant for vanilla, but it can work on any minecraft map. its just that blocks added by mods will show up as yellow. you can press G on your keyboard to enter "goto mode". punch in these coordinates: 95,57,84; and press "goto" it will take you right to the block

are you using avast?

try adding the file as an exception in your antivirus program.
