The future of FTB Modpacks pt 2

    I could not agree more.

The future of FTB Modpacks pt 2

When Ultimate for MC 1.6.x is released, will it include Gregtech, Tinker's Construct, both, or neither?

The future of FTB Modpacks pt 2

With regards to the possibility of future mod updates containing malware: Regardless of my trust in any particular developer, I have faith in the FTB team to find any possible malicious code and resolve the situation in beta testing before the modpack is released publicly.

The future of FTB Modpacks pt 2

I'd rather have Greg get his own pack, than have him infect Ultimate with his insanity.

I agree with you 100%. But there is a difference between illegally distributing malware and simply being a dishonest, arrogant jerk. (I could use a stronger word, but I won't.) Greg has done the latter, but people are accusing him of the former.

The future of FTB Modpacks pt 2

I'd like to be as unbiased as possible here: Firtly, mDiyo did not "hack" GregTech. He simply included, in his own mod, a legitimate recipe that would overwrite Greg's wood nerf. Likewise, Greg did not "distribute malware" or "prevent your access to Minecraft." He just intentionally made his...

The future of FTB Modpacks pt 2

Slowpoke, it's great that you're making a general policy for situations like this, as it can be used in the future if necessary. However, I was hoping you could explain how you plan to apply this policy in this specific GregTech/Tinker's Construct incident. Also, how are we defining...

The problem here is that Gregtech is turning into a total conversion mod, but it still calls itself an ic2 addon. Greg says he doesn't care about modpacks like FTB, but his reaction to mDiyo shows otherwise.

Many other modders would add some benefit to their tool if they wanted you to use it. But Greg just nerfs the alternative. Imagine what FTB would be like if ALL modders tried to do that. The only comparable example I can think of is Railcraft changing the crafting recipe for making rails...

That's exactly it. Greg nerfed wood just to force people to use HIS tools and machines. No, Greg thought, "Hmm... People aren't using my industrial sawmill. I could buff it... OR, I could just NERF WOOD!!" And we all know that Greg never buffs things.

If I have a handgun in my pocket (and ammunition in my other pocket), and I jut shot someone with it yesterday, would you feel safe around me just because I haven't loaded it yet? I'll paraphrase them for you: "mDiyo deserved that crash for messing with my mod. I don't care if you take my mod...

That seems a bit drastic... Not to mention, it would break almost every addon to any mod, not just GregTech. And the core reason Greg nerfed wood wasn't for added difficulty; it was to make people have to use his industrial sawmill for decent wood output.

Actually, he hasn't fixed it. The code is still there, currently inactive, but ready to be activated by Greg the next time someone else does to his mod what he does to everyone else's. As I've said before, Greg took his finger off the trigger, but the gun is still loaded. As for him "feeling...

On the contrary, I think it's great that mDiyo's taking a stand against Greg. Someone has to show Greg that he's not the emperor of Minecraft. Since mDiyo's anti-nerf is now configurable, Greg won't really have a leg to stand on.

It's sad to see this whole thing happen to Gregtech. That mod had a lot of potential. But these recent events have made me lose both my respect for Greg as a person and my trust in his code, and therefore also made me lose my willingness to use or defend his mod in any way.

Before I leave this thread, I have one last question: Does the latest version of Gregtech include malicious game-crashing code, active or otherwise?

Has it been resolved fully? I wasn't aware of that. So, will future versions of Ultimate include GT or not?

Closing this thread would not be a good idea. It's currently doing a wonderful job of isolating all the people complaining about Gregtech (myself included, I won't be a hypocrite) instead of having a new GT complaint thread popping up and being locked every 20 minutes.

If we're trying to figure out "who shot first," I think this analogy may be useful: Greg tosses a stone at mDiyo. mDiyo picks it up, chucking it back at Greg. Then Greg pulls out his shotgun and fires. Afterwards, Greg takes his finger off the trigger and claims to have destroyed the gun.

I'm not trying to "force" anyone to do anything. I'm merely suggesting that: 1. Greg should make all of his nerfs configurable. 2. In any FTB modpack not specifically centered around GT, the configs should be set to not nerf everything by default.
