One thing tho'.. for some reason no matter how I tried to place them, vanilla hoppers would not deposit their contents onto the pedestals.. I tried the hoppers outputting directly below them and from the side but nothing doing..:)
Odd. They work fine for me, just sneak-click them onto the side if the pedestal. Azanor said he uses them himself, so it isn't a cheat or 'sploit.

Not only do I have hoppers on each pedestal, I also have terrain smasher above the hoppers to deal with any taint/flux that may pop up.

If an infusion required 5 ingredients, am I better off arranging four of them symmetrically with each other and the fifth one on its own causing slight imbalance, or in as close as I can get to a 5-pointed star? I assume it's the former, from what people have said about the Y-axis symmetry calculations. A 5-pointed star would have no 180° symmetry at all.

I believe the former is the best option for stability. That's what I always do at least.

To the lab, mentelgen! We have work to do!

Does the infusion table actually check for reagent stability?
My operating theory was that, as long as the altars are arranged in a stable arrangement, it didn't matter which altars held which reagents, especially as so many of the recipes have an odd number of reagents.

Someone on reddit tested it. It does check if the ingredients are symmetrically placed, not just altar placement.

I dunno why Az designed the altar to check underneath it, that seems super sploity.

Given how little occult items actually contribute (0.1 stability per), the negative check is presumably so that thaumcraft power users can in fact bury / keep out of sight, the bulk of their stabilization.

For the Infusion Altar + Hopper contraption (this is entirely thought based - 0 testing done so far)

Couldn't you use vacuum hoppers from (openblocks/extra utilities, i always confuse the two) near each corner, and pipe them out with Impulse Itemducts/bc pipes to the nearby pedestals?

Also, do the pedestals all have to make one circle, or can I stagger them (to make a star) or make multiple rings out of them (just for aesthetics at this stage)?

I don't think they HAVE to all be in one circle... But keep in mind the range needed(and that nothing really needs more then one circle unless KAMI).

In principle, Vaccum hoppers would work, depending on if OpenBlocks and Thaumcraft would play nice, that said, pedestals have a one slot inventory that can be piped into with a hopper, so in theory, yes a vacuum hopper which works off the same principle should work.

But remember items can get destroyed as opposed to simply knocked off and other present vacuum hoppers could interfere with the suction of the item.

Are their any thaumcraft addons that add something like a Thaumic mop for dealing with the taint in a way that doesn't involve cobble or block breakers? That would be useful (maybe their could even be a mop golem)

Pictures an iron golem using a straw golem as a mop....
Then pictures a flux saturated straw golem mutant horror
