Hello,

Glad to see some information gathering.

You can guarantee accuracy of the location you're connecting to, by, on windows, opening command prompt and running 'ping new.creeperrepo.net'

This will return the following;

Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.9200]
(c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>ping new.creeperrepo.net

Pinging new.creeperrepo.net [78.129.148.36] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 78.129.148.36: bytes=32 time=48ms TTL=51
Reply from 78.129.148.36: bytes=32 time=51ms TTL=51
Reply from 78.129.148.36: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=51
Reply from 78.129.148.36: bytes=32 time=49ms TTL=51

Ping statistics for 78.129.148.36:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 48ms, Maximum = 51ms, Average = 49ms

As you can see this gives an IP, this is enough for me to know which machine it is at the least, but if you're actually curious as to where you're connecting, you can try pinging england1.creeperrepo.net, england2.creeperrepo.net, chicago1.creeperrepo.net, chicago2.creeperrepo.net, atlanta1.creeperrepo.net, losangeles1.creeperrepo.net and seeing which matches the IP.

At the moment we're working on a new geo location platform which will increase accuracy for diverting traffic, at the moment the current one is a little 'dumb' and some people even from LA get sent to Chicago or Atlanta instead of to the LA location.

Now thanks to Ash's original post once I was made aware of this thread about 8 minutes ago, I checked the Chicago repo mirror and found it had been rebooted without my knowledge, likely in the night some time recently, and was running the old repo software (for some reason, guess I was tired when I rolled the new stuff out), which would've been causing some pretty serious issues with MD5 hashes.

While I understand this is frustrating, however the importance of information for debugging a system as spread out as the repo is really really important, and I'm glad everyone came together to help collect information.

Hopefully anyone experiencing this from this point forward can include the result from their ping so I can find the machine causing the issues and move forward with resolving it, the chances are it's a 30 second fix, but I don't know where it is broken without you guys!

Today I went back to try to get to feed the beast, and it worked, I have not done anything.

Just was going to try to make a rule to create an exception to java but when I opened it, started to download Modpacks, everything works fine now.
My pastebin: http://pastebin.com/tWGRdQx3#
Thanks for all the help and interest to help.

I've attempted downloading using several different location option, all of them have failed. I've even tried deleting reinstalling both the .exe and .jar launcher versions and it hasn't helped. Is there a reliable workaround and can it be explained so that a person that isn't so tech savvy can do it?

Also, I've tried pinging creeperrepo.net but the window closes automatically before I can get a good look at the results and copy them.

Do you have any specific information like how long the download takes etc, or is it entirely random? Trying to figure out if it's a timeout or similar.

A WinMTR log to said IP could also be useful.

it is completely random, it starts and stays at full speed (for me 300 kb/s) for a certain amount of time (seconds, minutes) and has downloaded 1 mb or 15 mb or even 60 mb.. but it never reaches the full 135 mb for the package. And then completely shuts off, no more data transfer. I tried 20+ times so far with all the uninstalling and rebooting. But the problems persists. :(

edit: thanks for the quick reply though :)

Okay, I'm still having the same exact problems, but last night, I was poking around my FTB files(not changing them, just looking) and I saw that the launcher appeared to have actually downloaded all of the mod files for Unleashed, but after taking a closer look at the download progress bar right before the error message pops up, it seems to me that the error appears to occur when it attempts to download the actual Minecraft .jar files.

I don't know how better to explain it, and I'm not at all tech savvy so I don't know if what I said is accurate, but this was what I found and hope someone can make sense out of what I just said.

Please post in the format mentioned in my OP.
If you are getting "Error Downloading Modpack" then this is not the same error as the one mentioned in the post.

Specifically, this issue is the "connection refused" error.

It looks like currently, from a random Dallas, TX node and Redmond, WA node that the round-robin DNS of creepernet is giving addresses for new.creeperrepo.net as:

new.creeperrepo.net. 600 IN A 50.7.98.154 <- this is "mail.awakeandsingle.com" legit?
new.creeperrepo.net. 600 IN A 199.96.83.199 <- this is legit
Same from Redmond, WA

$ dig new.creeperrepo.net. +trace

I don't think it has anything to do with the client SW.
