Ahh right, Tekkit isn't a mod, but a mod pack...
Technically, it's not even relevant to this forum (certainly not to General FTB chat) so it's not worth mentioning.
Pumping lava is also possibly the lamest argument to watch in existence, but hey, if it's in Minecraft, people will complain about it.
There's also the arguments over the melting of netherack into lava, and how much MJ it should cost, but they're secondary to lava pumping, though related.

I knew there was a third kind of mod argument thread which keeps recurring, but I couldn't remember what it was until now. Thanks!
I know, right? I'd honestly forgotten about the Xycraft argument since it doesn't pop up nearly as often as Gregtech or EE.

I think once we get the actual xycraft release with machines we will see a lot more arguments about it. Right now is mostly 'Xycraft is useless'. I don't think there has as much arguing about it's machines yet, compared to the other mods that is.

Anyone else notice how you can create infinite xychoridite from only 4 of the same color? Just use the 4 to craft some xychoridite bricks. The recipe will yield 4 bricks, which can be taken apart to yield 4 xychoridite each. This will leave you with 16 xychoridite, which is 4 times what you started with. Just rinse and repeat. And since xychoridite can be crafted back into xychorium, you can have an infinite supply of that as well. Seems like a pretty major bug to me.

Well it is probably fixed in the ForgeCraft version we don't have. They haven't exactly updated the official release much. But Soaryn has tweeted about a new world gen release in 2-3 days, so it might be fixed with that.

I'm, not so sure. I replaced all my torches with the Xycraft version and my lighting looked exactly the same.
Torches emit level 14 light, the Xycraft sulfur and aluminum torches emit level 15. If you do not believe it place a torch and stand with your head at it's level and check F3. The bl (Block Light) should read 15 for the xycraft torch.

I did a few lighting tests today.

An Aluminium Torch lights as much as Glowstone or a Firefly (which is, about one square or so more than a regular torch).

One interesting note however, was that the Soul Shard's Soul Crystal (not yet a craftable block) put out even more light that that, about 2 squares more than Aluminium/Glowstone/Firefly.

Also, a single Crystal Shard was lighting the area at about half the distance of a normal torch, which isn't very good for lighting purposes. We will have to see how much light the upcoming Xycraft lights will emit.

When I was deciding whether they were worth making, I walled myself into a 1x1x2 space so there was no other light, placed a torch at my feet, and used f3 to check the light level - they do produce a light level higher than a normal torch.

It may be that these produce a higher light level - but isn't that to be ignored? I mean.. if you have to use internal checks to even see the proof of it producing more light.. what's the point? I would really like to know. =)

1 stick + 1 sulfur = 8 sulfur torches that produce more light then torches by 1 which means slightly less torches needed to prevent mobs from spawning, which is the main draw of lighting things up. If you use gregtech you can also use his sulfur for the torches making them even easier to get.

Because it's not just about being able to see better, but also to prevent mob spawning. Some people (myself included) carefully calculate light levels in every room to make sure there is no block with light level less than 8. Even the extra one point from the torch can mean many more blocks protected against spawning.

True, I place every 5 blocks to make sure I get no spawn. And when I replaced them I still placed every 5 because if I pushed out to 6 it looked too dark. I mean, literally, exactly the same.

Vote for more ways to light up areas.
Wrathlamps are a nice start but sometimes thous invisible light blocks can make problems with other things.

I like the sulfur and aluminium torches because it doesn't use my coal , I got tons of the stuff sitting in barrels, and I like the blue light.

People whine too much... if you dont like it, dont use it and shut up about it >.>

Why bother taking the time to complain about it if you dont like it? No one cares whether you like it or not, but when you post these complaints on the thread its extremely disrespectful to the mod devs who put sooo much time and effort into making these mods. On top of that, this and ee3 are prereleases... meaning they aren't complete - so stop whining about the lack of features, they are coming but devs have lives and jobs because making mods doesnt pay very well.

Better question: Why did you take the time to bring this thread back to the top, just to rant at the OP (who did nothing wrong BTW)? Nobody's posted in it for almost 4 weeks.

And since you didn't read the thread (else you would already know this): Nobody was complaining. the OP was just asking if he should keep Xycraft enabled for the time being.

Stop trying to defend people when nobody's attacking them. Every thread about xycraft is not immediately a long rant about how it's not particularly useful yet.

Really man, you necro'd a thread to yell at the OP and you don't even know what the thread's about? Come on.
