Xycraft was supposed to be a really big mod, wasn't it? For 1.4's Xycraft to be just a sample platter, i can imagine minecraft updates often enough to keep Soaryn busy keeping up. Real life stuff is also pretty time consuming.
It's rather unfortunate, this development of xycraft. Soaryn is quite vocal about the things he is doing in the mod, but it will likely be perpetually stuck in a dev environment. Too much bitten off, no time to chew.
Not to personally hate on soaryn, but once you become popular for something you do, there really is no more need to do it :3; except for teaser streams that happen in between the forge-craft stuff...
People understandably lose some drive to work on projects like this; chickenbones was doing the power net stuff for it, and he is less into the modding scene than he once was (no commit to NEI in 2 weeks).
Personally I think people need to keep turning over new leaves, there are many other authors out there making really cool new stuff who still have a passion for it. Keep checking new stuff out and focus less on the mods that were of the "good ol' days".

probably the sad but honest truth, i have been playing on and off for around 2 years, (of course i don't play minecraft all the time) and xycraft was my deco mod of choice. i built so much stuff with those blocks and redpower2's marble and basalt i really can say i haven't built anything quite as big as the structures i built with those blocks. In part because they really went well with the industrial/futuristic feel of all the tech mods. I feel like minecrafts default world blocks dont go good with the metallic look of the machinery, But i very much appreciate telling me about your mod (and ill probably use it the gilded obsidian looks impressive).
Xycraft isn't new? 1.4 Xycraft had almost nothing in it. Even if it still has a while to go, abandoning it now would be throwing all that time it was worked on down the tube. That, and when the mod is finally complete, it will be far easier to update.
As far as focusing less on mods that were of the "good ol' days", most of the mods that were in the Ultimate pack along with the sample platter Xycraft are still around. While i do believe that certain mods that won't be named should kind of faze out, solely due to newer mods outclassing them in every way, I think reworking them and adding new content is better than throwing them out.
Well, at least we know Soaryn isnt dead. He is on the forgecraft videos... Unless they built a sentient robot version of him, because they mursered the real deal..... *meep* (a browny for anyone who knows where the *meep* meme thing comes from)
At this point, waiting for an updated release of Xycraft may be a lot like waiting for the Boston Red Sox to win the World Series again (prior to 2004).
The subject does come up as a work in progress in the background chatter in DW20's forgecraft videos sometimes, but Soaryn's response to Dire's teasing has gone from "soon" to "shut up!"
I think I remember hearing that Soaryn streams some of his modding sessions, so that would be the place to go if you really want to check up on the progress. I saw a teaser video some time ago for things planned beyond the blocks & tanks, & we can expect some really cool things if it ever gets released.

An 86 year wait then it is, But yea i have noticed soaryn is still very active in the community, and that's why i thought i would ask if anyone else has heard of any updates or had any speculations, its been a couple minecraft versions since he last updated xycraft (1.4.7) and ftb has already released 1.5.2 packs then 1.6.4 and now 1.7.x packs are on the horizon and still no xycraft....
He has been saying he will release something with part of the e-net every version since 1.5. I don't see why he doesn't release it in modules, like what projectred is doing and what eloraam did with redpower2.
Yeah, this much is beyond me. Just having something out there would give him a bit of focus, hopefully.
Updates? Soaryn streams him coding quite a bit, not too much, but it is not rare either
I know he does but i've seen him stream code in a while now. Also I remember him telling dire he didn't want a release because he wanted it to bugless as possible. Which is fine and all but if you remember the 1.4 release he has if I recall 6-8 bugfix builds with tons of fixes in both. Fixes you will not find unless it's being mass played and reported on.
