How bad are XYCRAFT Multitanks for Lag? One of my friends heard that Miltitanks can cause alota lag. I know this is true for Railcraft tanks, but what about XYcraft? I've never had a problem with them, but It might be problem for my friends.

I have quite a large amount of Xycraft tanks, and I haven't noticed anything too horrible.

Compared to a fresh world, my FPS wasn't too different. Graphical lag might be a different story, but my bottleneck is CPU.

Aparently it was what was causing the lag on the Mindcrack server. Not sure how true this is, but I suppose keeping track of all that liquid can get pretty intensive when there are hundreds of xytanks in the world. Perhaps in a server environment it could eventually be a problem, but if you're playing SSP you shouldn't have to worry.

The funny thing is that the only place I have ever heard of that is on Mindcrack videos.

So far, I didn't notice any more lag from these tanks than from other multi blocks.
The fact that they can be bigger, and composed of nearly any blocks might make them take a bit more resources, but nothing as major as they claim.

If anyone has any proof of the contrary, then by all mean tell us, because the Mindcrack guys tend to point quite randomly at things for lag, and completely overlook others (such as Guude having more than 60 stacks of cobble in a single iron pipe, going back and forth and causing explosions).

Usually, server lag is caused mainly by entities and block/light updates. Fast timers and anything causing light to update are usually a good place to start hunting. Too many chunks force loaded won't help either.
Client lag can be caused by many things, including entities, graphical updates, and blocks with custom render in great numbers.

Soaryn tweeted that his tanks have absolutely no reason to be causing lag. He keeps asking for the logs from the mindcrack people claiming his tanks cause lag but they aren't showing him anything so for all intents and purposes XyTanks don't cause lag.

No, I don't agree with this. EVERYTHING causes lag, in a greater or lesser degree.
If all you have is this:

@LunaRArmydaL simple answer they arent ? ... I need a game log. And a way to replicatw it. Get someone from mindcrack to msg me :p
it's not exactly the full stop that you make it out to be. When the mindcrack guys message Soaryn (which may have already been done, how the hell would you know?) and we get a response, we just don't know.

It's not the tanks. It's the BC pipes attempting to insert more items into containers than they can hold. I've reproduced this, accidentally, in my world and it lags the shit out of everything while the setup constantly explodes (dramatically affecting both server world tick and client).

It could be a huge amount of things. And probably is just that, a culmination of lots and lots of little laggy things that come together into a laggy mess.

I don't personally watch ...well, lp's to be honest, but DrOr tells me that mindcrackers use tubes a lot and those are known to be pretty damn laggy. And if they never tried to point the finger at RP, well... Also, what Lambert said, I imagine they've got a lot of stuff going on.

Anyway I personally never had a problem with xytanks and I had a few pretty damn big ones. The only lag they cause is when they're forming.

The mindcrack guys don't know for sure if that's whats causing it, they believed so but after taking them out they still have lag occurring , they mentioned it was a little better but was still laggy

I mean. if you want to be pedantic, yes everything causes lag. If you wanted to be even more pedantic you could say this: "lag" isn't the right term. Are we talking about significant frame rate drops? XYTanks aren't know to cause this issue. Server lag (not high ping) is what we could assume is what is meant by "lag" which would mean the Ticks per Second rate is below 20. Unless the XyTanks are significantly affecting the server load such that the TPS rate falls below 20 then we can say XyTanks don't cause lag.

But that is only if we want to be pedantic.

My general impression of MindCrack FTB videos:

"Well you know the lag is pretty bad today, but we're going to build this massively huge redpower structure." (Hint guys: It's redpower lagging you to crap, and always has been)

I enjoy them as entertainers, but with the exception of Guude I question their technical expertise.

Out of all the Mindcrackers i only watch Etho for creativity... I tried to watch the others but i can't be bothered to, i don't like their personality and the way they present stuff. Etho tries to understand stuff, and he does try to minimize lag and other things. I don't watch Etho to learn how to use FTB in the most optimal way, but to see if i get some of his creativity and ingenuity to rub off on me.

It's vanilla and not FTB, but if i want technical expertise, i watch KaboPC, JL2579, Sethbling & DocM77. FVDisco too, but he seems not to be uploading that many videos anymore. I wish JL & Co would set up an FTB server and play around with it but at least JL has stated he's not terribly interested in it. Oh well. Would love to see what they could come up with given the tools FTB gives.

BdoubleO put up an episode today where he showed that server performance problems have persisted after Xycraft tanks have been dismantled. Seems they weren't the source of the problem after all, or at least not the only one.

That's good to hear.

On another note, why doesn't someone just start a fresh server map, record the performance, and then just build a load of xycraft tanks?

See how much it affects the performance with no unknown variables to take away from the experiment. A lot of data that you try and come to a conclusion about from a fully-stocked server is going to be pretty vague. Not enough constants. Too many variables.

I think this might have something to do with it:
hTsn4Zil.jpg

That's almost 8800 entities when the only people online at the time were Etho and Zisteau.
No wonder there's lag.
