The nether has small aura nodes, the twilight forest also has decent sized aura nodes but the thing is I didn't get the message "a nearby aura nodes spits out something foul" or something like that. Weird :S

Do you happen to have mystcraft?

Because mystcraft portals are "one way" portals, so someone might be sending them to the nether.

I've had TC3 spawn loads of witches while I was offline e.t.c. That one then makes it to the nether or spawns there doesn't seem implausable.

I've only ever had witches spawn from dark nodes in TC3, which only spawn in the TC3 barrows (requiring biomes not available in the nether).
As I recall, the aura nodes are based on vegetation, specifically, vanilla vegetation, last I heard, which explains why both the nether (mushrooms) and twilight forest have aura nodes, but not as many as are found in the overworld (also explains why some biomes are rich in life, but with no aura).

As far as the spawning issue goes, I can't think of much that would do it, especially as I've never encountered a vanilla witch spawn.

Poor thing looks a bit lost. Maybe it did come through you portal and wandered a good distance?
I thought mobs stopped moving once they were 28 or so blocks away from a player.

Side note-@Predator:The pigman in that SS looks angry. WHAT DID YOU DO?!?

You may or may not know nether portals tend to spawn everywhere, there are theories larger than the x-files on why and what causes this to happen.

Without wishing to start a debate on how portals spawn on there own in random places, lets just say that if you've died in the nether then another portal will spawn somewhere in the overworld. It could be that this witch simply found a portal near to its home and wandered in getting lost in the process.

I have not heard of nether portals spawning randomly and to get into mine never mind the fact that i havent found witch hut to get to it i would have to jump down a ravine, pass my xycraft crystal wall then somehow make it down a aprox. 30 block staircase

Ahh well you see this is the magic that the nether is, lets talk hypothetically and say you went to the nether, wandered off say 1000m from your portal looking for a fortress and then got blasted to bits by blazes. At that death point a random nether portal appears in the Overworld at that round about (give or take a few 100m) location.

Now since the nether is a lot smaller and some timey wimey dimension crunching spacey thingabob occurs the location in the nether is multiplied 8x in the overworld, so that random portal is in fact nowhere near you in the overworld.

Voxel map changes this somewhat and the corordinates in the nether actually match those in the overworld and completely screw up the above theory. It does however synch up with REI's minimap.

*stops talking bollocks and theories and goes back to playing with 1.5.1 and Sphax and Mods*

Bump

This happened to me a few hours ago on the yogcraft pack

A witch was in the nether, hundreds of blocks away from my portal. It appeared to spawn in the lava and promptly died. I only have one nether portal and its on a floating island in an extreme hills biome. No chance of it spawning there. I was the only one on my server, and yogcraft doesn't have mystcraft either.

I remember something about witches being able to spawn in jungle or desert temples if they are close to a swamp biome. The witch I spotted was near a nether fortress. Coincidence?

Any ideas?

Just found a witch in a Mystcraft age. As you can see in the Pic (I hope), there is a Dangerous Level of Flux in a nearby node. Or did minecraft vanilla spawning just freak out? (Ocean Biome)

Hmmmm perhaps it's a flux thing then?

Does killing either skeletons generate flux? That's what I was doing

Didn't have any other flux related symptoms though
