They were saying the same stuff about wikipedia. Turns out the majority of people are not there to troll. And it would be simpler for moderator to remove those rights (and eventualy ban) people who abuse of that, then to manualy trash can every single post themself.
just don't give everyone the power to move a thread he doesn't like to the thrash pile but require a coordinated effort (like mass vote of spam) for it to work

All of this spam is actually slightly annoying me now, I'd happily spend a few hours deleted bot posts. College? To difficult :p

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
I agree with this- if enough users mark a post/thread as spam it'll be automatically hidden.

To avoid abuse- after an account as made X pupbic posts it starts a countdown for that account; after which it cannot be hidden by the public.
By example; once someone makes 25 posts, then waits 24 hours they'll be immune to being hidden.

no point, just make a forum rule : only put spam in the trash can.

threads would just be moved in another section call "trash". If someone ever abuse of it, he could be banned/removed that power quite easily and their would be no harm other then new users unable to read a post for a few hours...

None of this is going to happen. Updating or improving the forums is not a priority.

We have tried several systems. Each works for a limited time. Then the bots find a way around it.

For now there is a limited group testing a new idea... our most trusted spam reporters now have access to remove posts/threads and temp ban for spam under very specific circumstances. It should help reduce the number of visible spam threads. And for stuff they can't remove from view because of the limitations.. there's a report button.

we'll see how it goes.

I see what you mean, A link has found its way to me. https://www.dropbox.com/s/jug09y3hbvhzdin/holyshit.PNG?dl=0

Btw: Sorry for the bad language in the link, I did not upload or make that link.

if it is only 30 day old accounts then I see the danger of "sleeper" that lie dormant for a month before starting the deluge

perhaps use 30 days since first post instead?

I would gladly help out whenever I'm on if asked, but I can understand wanting to keep this ability to a chosen few.
