Which modpack to use?

I'm trying to choose which modpack to use (currently i am using the Direwolf20 pack), share your opinio on which modpack you think is the best (any why?)

And just out of curiosity, which pack has the most mods?

Ultimately though, it just depends on what mods you want. Ultimate has the largest amount of mods that I happen to like, so I use it. Were I someone else, that could be completely different.

I don't really think that is a valid comparison. If you don't like gregtech play Ultimate and turn off the bits of gregtech you don't like, which is a trivial task.

I'm currently playing on dw20 but I think I'd rather be on Ultimate.

If one is playing on a server, then that is a wholely valid comparison. If one is not, then who gives a shit what modpack you use because you can edit any mods in/out that you like. The question "what should I use" is completely irrelevant.

yes you can edit singleplayer modpacks but that could cause ID issues...

Yes, if you don't want it to replace things (by replace I mean changing recipies) then either dig into his configs or use Velotican's premade configs.

yes you can edit singleplayer modpacks but that could cause ID issues...

If you are only removing mods then you will never cause ID issues.

There's really no reason to not use Ultimate, you just remove whatever you don't want and edit the configs.

Unless you're on a server, obviously.

And if you're playing on a server you had to pick that server somehow. Instead of picking ultimate vs. dw20 because of gregtech, pick one that is configured with what you want.

The comparison isn't valid when any server you play on can tweak Gregtech to taste, or even disable it.

This, just use Veloticans configs. I won't sing the song of "GT is awesome" this time, but trust me when I say that you'd miss out.

I have never used gregtech before (and it seems quite terrifying) and i dont find IC2 too bad, what do you mean by disabling tough recipes? will it revert to a simpler one? how do i disable specific recipes (specific instructions please)? and does gregtech replace IC2 machines?

oh and could someone give a link to the easiest-to-understand wiki for gregtech?

GT doesn't replace IC2 machines. It adds better versions and more machines. As for the recipes, you can download a pre made config file or you can do it yourself. Doing it yourself is incredibly easy. Just go into the GT files and set recipes that are labeled Expensive to false. If it says true then the recipe will be changed to a harder one.

I like the Direwolf20 because:

1: The mods in it are closer to my ideal set of mods then ultimate
2: Slowpoke messes with some things in the ultimate pack, like where and how often ores spawn, and disables some extra biomes where direwolf20 has default configs for the most part
3: Direwolf20 is somewhat of a mod expert, he has been playing with lots of tech/magic mods for a long time. he has contact with most if not all of the modders and knows a lot about the mods themselves, so I definitely trust his choice in mods. Its also more similar to forgecraft where most of the FTB modders play.
4: It doesn't have gregtech, I personally don't like gregtech, maybe you will, its definitely worth taking a look at.
5: Since when I started playing the direwolf20 pack, chargepads twilight forest, extra bees, modular powersuits, thaumic bees, reliquary, and applied energistics were added. Which shows that direwolf20 is always looking for new cool mods to spotlight and even add to the pack. I feel like he is slightly more likely to add new mods to his pack then slowpoke
