I am running java 8-31 and I haven't been able to play since java 8, I looked it up and other people also have this problem. I would downgrade but I have some java programs that only run/work better on the newest update. I am just curious about when I will be able to play again w/o downgrading?

well I have been playing magic farm 2 so um yeah
Yeah it is a bit of a mess. Lots of things require you to have updated Java(like home banking etc.). And you cannot in any way have multiple versions installed.
I am playing TPPI myself so in the same boat. So far I have been using my laptop for all the java 8 stuff and keeping my desktop running java 7. Not really recommended running an older version but no other way.

Look up Legacy Java Fixer. Coremod to allow 1.6 stuff and forge to run Java8 over ver u20 iirc.

You might check the Forge website... I thought they released a compatibility fix a month or two ago?

Would I just place it in the mods folder or what?
Edit: Never mind I found it.
Edit: It worked, Thank You. It is server Compatible for those who also have this problem.

there is an option in launcher: "path to java"
so
1. install java 7, copy "c:\program files\java" as "c:\program files\java7"
2. deinstall java 7
3. install java 8
4. setup launcher to use java from your copy
5. profit(?)

I never tryed this.

And nobody should try that because there really is not profit. If you try that your windows will have registry entries to non-existent java installations because paths does not match.

Most mods for 1.7.10 work with Java 8 (but not all). On the other hand, why not just go back to java 7?

I have heard this so many times in #ftb. Do you have examples of non-working mods so they can be fixed at some point or dropped from packages?

Well I have no real idea. I know that my custom modpack works fine with Java 8 but that FTB Infinity doesn't. But I didn't really go deeper into this. I just switch to java 7 when playing Infinity and back to 8 when playing mine :)

Weird. Works for me. Mind to post crashlog or full console log here, in bug reporting thread or into support site.

To switch between java versions on ubuntu:

sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-7-oracle

or:

sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-8-oracle

Easy as that.
