My favorite mod would have to be Thaumcraft 3. It's something that I really enjoy as it brings in a whole new aspect in ftb rather than just the standard tech stuff. It's kinda like my getaway from all the other mods where I can just chill and discover new things without having a bunch of machines blow up on me :p So what's your favorite mod in ftb?

I guess my pc is just that good. I also find using a server to play on lets your normal pc run much faster.
yeah I found that too, and had plenty of fun on a public tekkit server. But my internet has gotten decidedly worse since then and the FTB server I was playing on with a couple of friends I met on that tekkit server went great until then. So yeah, server play is out for me... and sans optifine is also out. I can't afford a new pc, so I do what I can to enjoy SSP, and that means Optifine is essential.

As for content mods... either Redpower2 or Thaumcraft 3

OptiFine is even better on "just that good" systems, as while you don't need the FPS boost, the minimapping and antialiasing is extremely useful. Unless you're playing at some absurdly small resolution, or you have no desire to have things look nice.

How do you get around the iron chest mod glitches?
What glitch is that? I've been using optifine and iron chests (specifically iron, silver, gold, and diamond) without any issues.

I love what i can do if it worked. It doesnt work that well with advanced video cards. On my laptop it runs great. But anything fancy and it just cant handle it.

what you mean how it changes the colour ever so slightly? Oh the horror! The disgrace of it! Choice between that little impactless glitch with 30fps or not having that glitch and 5fp... hmmm wonder which wins...

I'm using an NVidia GeForce 680 on my main system, and it runs perfectly fine. My AMD Radeon HD 7800 has no issues with it, either. The NVidia GeForce 6800m in my seven year old laptop requires it to be able to play vanilla (otherwise FPS is in the single digits at all times).

I doubt it is an issue of "advanced video cards".

Maybe there is another glitch than that involved, eh?

LOL no it makes my chests spin. This is only on my advanced pc. On my laptop it works great. I have messaged him about it and yeah... *shrugs*
What version of OptiFine did you use? Have you tried the current version? And don't just answer offhand, actually go check. If you cannot answer the first question accurately, you cannot answer the second question without actively downloading the latest version and giving it a shot.
To confirm, I've never seen an iron chest spin with optifine, or sans optifine.

Apparently so... nothing that I've ever come across...

If your chest spins, use your omnitool/cres hammer to flip it back around. It's still hardly as gamebreaking as 5fps.. (can you see how much I'm emphasising the 5fps here?)

If my chests started to spin, I'd likely call a priest. I've still got one alive in a nearby village, although he only sells junk and won't buy anything useful. But hey, maybe he'll fix it, right?

Five FPS is below the limit of immersion into the suspension of disbelief barrier, which is where you stop thinking that you are looking at a screen with a few pictures that change every now and again, and start to think that you are looking through a window into another world. This is all subconscious, of course, but it is a fairly important factor in allowing a game to be considered "good".

the lowest I can have fun with is around 12, and thats borderline.

Usually twenty to twenty-five is about where it is acceptable for most people. If you've gotten used to lower FPS situations, you may be able to force yourself to enjoy it at lower levels, but you'll surely end up greatly enjoying it when you can get it higher.

I have installed the newest version. D5 and had to go back to the D3 to make things work right. I really did check into this and the iron chest mod says its optifine. Optifine wont work on it... idk what to do but use an outdated version.
