Place the lightning rod in an Eternal Storm Mystcraft age. Just make sure there aren't any destructive instabilities in said mystcraft age.

I've had lightning strikes on my lightning rod that wasn't even fully drained from the previous lightning strike. (I drained the rod into 4 MFSUs).

I meant - on average - what do you get in a weeks operation? I know storms are quite lumpy in their EU income but I wanted to make a decision if I should make one when we switch to 1.5 packs from ultimate

I may just make a separate UU fab and hook it up and wait a few days - it takes a bunch of iridium and I am seriously doubting it comes close to using the mats on solar instead. a stack of UU would take 41 strikes and it would be good to know what the average eu/t is over time

Can't find it anywhere

I'm not sure if you were talking to me (quote me next time so I get an alert by clicking on the reply button under my post), so ignore this post if I am wrong.

But on average, I get very little pure thunderstorms, especially when you're in a desert biome. So I'm going to guess it is about 1 lightning strike from 1-2 hours, per lightning rod. That's very pathetic IMHO relative to solar.

Now, if you do not use mystcraft but still want to use lightning rods, it is still feasible to get a farm going. You need to use a rainmaker machine with iodine capsules to trigger the rain. When it is raining, you can still get lightning strikes, but it is at a 10% rate of a pure regular thunderstorm.

When I did this with 4 lightning rods, and I made it rain once every 30 minutes, I had constant EU flowing to the matter fabricator. I did, however, step down the EU/t so that each lightning rod strike will drain out to 40 minutes. So even though it was just regular rain, with 4 rods, I had a chance to get up to 4 strikes for the 10 minutes, on average, that the rain lasted. If you have more lightning rods, the more profitable this technique becomes. If you can make mass amounts of iodine capsules and make it permanently rain, even better.

Just some suggestions. But definitely do not do 1 lightning rod directly to 1 fabricator. It'll take you forever to get any UU-matter.

I am playing on Gregtech though, where it takes 16 million EU to generate one UU-matter.

388 Thermopiles Saddly I never got the MJ->EU BT engine/Lava gen part built before I lost the map but it was promising.

How do you guys handle constantly switching maps? Lol. I've walked around in Unleashed, but I can't give up all my progress in Mindcrack.

And what are those fancy yellow colored bricks? That looks awesome.

Having been in MC since well like forever it feels like. I have no fear of map resets. The game is about building stuff. So resets are just a way to build more stuff. Don't get attachted to things there are so many ways you can lose them. Case in point I lost that map when my PC died and I had to repalce the drives on it.

The yell bricks are gold. The whole base was made with gold. Long story theres a thread around here called Mothershoop or the such that has the build up until it died.

I currently have 1 36HP boiler (just tore down the 2x2 12HP boiler I used to kick start it.) and 1 diesel generator and MFE for charging tools/armor. All of my ic2 machines have the steam upgrades and run on steam though, so I'm doing ok. My plan is to eventually get 4 36HP boilers going for MJ and steam, and power my matter fab using methane or lithium, or something else for the machines that can't take steam/MJ.

I had 24 max height lightning rods on ultimate wgt in a storm Age. Unfortunately the owner cleared all mystcraft ages the next week.

I looked at the pictures....did you do it all in creative mode? That's a lot of gold.

No I do not use creative in my builds. I do use creative on test worlds to figure stuff out but for my builds it is 100% survival play.

For that build I stated with Lava using IC2/GT centrifuge to make gold. Later I switched over to a SoulShard tier 5 pigman shard to get my gold.

It was a long involved build. But I enjoy that sort of thing. My current project in my sig is much in the same vain. It a large build done in servivual.

I've got a system on top of my compound's roof that uses 176 HV Solar arrays producing 90112 eu/t collectively It powers my ME system and MFFS system. they are fed to the basement's electrical engines producing 1140mj/t to my tesseracts. It's not the most efficient system but it does exactly what I want it to do. I'm thinking of upgrading with more engines so I dont loose that much. it helps to power all of my starships lol, no seriously tho I've made some awesome ships out of microblocks, can even get in them and all. I made this in an mystcraft age that looks like mars (lotsa glaciers/wastelands/mesas) and it just looks so sexy.. I also set up a system of 21 HV solar arrays feeding my Mass fabricator continually.

It's really wild when I sit back and go, "Wow... this is just a pirate king's compound... wonder what I could do to make an entire space colony... (working on it, got a space age in mystcraft that I've got some ships, 4 stable quad uranium reactors on the flag ship then tons of others running off magmatic engines.) I've actually got some awesome systems for the reactors/engines that kinda look like ship reactors. I may just post pics if you guys are nice enough 8p. All non-cheat and all after the culmination of my girl and myself working on it for months. Looks perfectly sexy

Dang.
You must have had 32 centrifuges going nonstop.

I only have 8 D:

Well it started as centrifuges but in the end it was much easier to just use pigmen. They drop gold nuggets which at the time you could use the autocrafter to turn into bars and then into blocks. And the pigmen have a specail case that the swords they drop all have the same level of damage was its was easy to combine with an autocrafter then pulzverize then smelt into bars and combine into blocks. Since all in all I just needed gold.

GT makes the solar route much harder- If I could have 40000000 arrays I would on principal! but the ultimates require boatloads of mats on GT (1 stack of iridium each, glowstone and uranium by the buckets and a few UU mater to boot)

Thinking I may abort my fusion plans - its looks silly expensive for what it is and there is no way I am making 100 advanced casings as there aren't enough rubies in the world.

will use my 6000 UU matter elsewhere

The lighning rod experiment was just to use a uu matter fab to see how many hits it gets - I would have another one for UU production. I play on a server with friends and mystcraft ruins the whole thing so it is disabled. All I want to know is on average what is the eu/t for a rod in normal circumstances! I am surprised noone has looked into it. My calcs say it needs to be 64 eu/t to make it worth the costs otherwise just chuck a coupl eof hybrids on the roof

On our old 1.4.7 server I had a stack of 20 Mark 1 GT fusion reactors putting out 655k Eu/t.

Our current server is a 152wgt and we are running 60 full sized HP steam boilers from the output of 2 forestry tree farms. 57 on ethanol and 3 on charcoal.
Super saplings are awesome !

Gregtech doesn't change anything in advanced solars
