Nano Sabre does 10 hearts of damage. Diamond Sword does 4.5, sharpness 5 diamond sword would do a random amount of damage between 7 and 10.5 hearts of damage, if I remember my numbers correctly.

It's up to you though.

You can't enchant nano and it requires you to turn it on/off because it will consume power continuously. It's up to you. Personally, I use the chainsaw for my day-to-day stuff. I plan to deck out a diamond sword with all the goody enchants for TF, Ender Dragon, etc. It's more fun when it's OP.

RiuTech (TM) recommends the Longsword Man / Pap / Man with EU mod + 5 Quartz upgrades*.

* - Moss not included in this product because it looks like puke.

4 dmg base + 7.5 quartz = 11.5. Better than Nano and diamond w/ S IV!

The diamond sword is marginally better in terms of damage, and it has a lot more durability and doesn't require you to turn it on and off.

I'd keep the quartz to 4 modifiers and add a lapiz modifier for looting, as 10dmg is enough to 1KO most mobs

Nano. There is no durability, and lights mobs on fire. Most mobs (besides Endermen and zombies) are killed in one hit. I also recommend a Mining Laser.

Fire is actually a downside, because flaming mobs will set you on fire if they hit you, and the damage it does is slow and spread out; if you're hitting something and then waiting ten seconds for it to be finished off by fire damage, you're doing it wrong.

Unless it got updated recently, both of these are wrong. Nanpo saber does 10 hearts of damage, versus 7-10.5 for a sharpness IV diamond sword. A nano saber also has infinite durability since it consumes EU (I wish it had a bigger internal storage though). It also doesn't set enemies on fire.

A few worlds ago you could book enchant most any mod item, including nano sabers. I had a sharpness V nano saber that could 1-shot pretty much everything apart from endermen.

'cept for when a surprise angry zombie sneaks up behind you. Can't sprint kill easily then really. :p

I like to use 3 quartz, so I can add other mods just to cover up the ugliness of the electric upgrade

well, as ugly it may be, its the best option if you`re using some sort of a charger, like power armor.

It's helpful because you never have to cook your food. I assume if you have a nano saber you have some sort of armor that can stand being on fire for 10 seconds.

Sharpness V, Looting III Sword of the Condor is better. How many swords also enable flight? ;):p

I agree about the fire mechanics. Since the change in vanilla mechanics where flaming mobs can set you on fire as well, fire based attacks are best left to ranged weapons.

Does nano not lose its enchants when you turn it on and off?

TC weapons are by far more customizable, but not available in 1.4.7 unfortunately.

If you want to max out raw damage, TiCo axes are under-appreciated with SecretOfManaAlloy battleaxes coming in at a whopping 9.5 hearts of damage per hit at base. Which is, like, whoah.

Well, think about it in terms of strategy-based games. You can only attack once every x seconds, regardless if you do 9.9 damage, it will still take you two hits to kill something with 10 HP.

Nano saber offers the most efficient DPS. Allowing you to one shot mobs. The next most efficient (imo) is the chainsaw. 5 damage, twice is 10. Unless the mob has more than 10 HP or it is a boss mob (which you should really be using something like a bow to kill), anything in between 5.1-9.9 doesn't offer anymore returns than a weapon at 5 damage. For most vanilla mobs anyways. I am not sure about what's in TF or what the other mod packs add.
