What would be causing this fps lag?

I play direwolf20 for 1.7.10, and I have GT and a few other mods added.

On a side note ... any idea what is causing this fps lag for me ? It's around 40-60 frames when I log on, then quickly tanks to where it is unplayable. I've had this before GT before, so I don't believe it is related to that.

Thanks :)

I have no idea. Is this a fresh world or do you already have machines or stuff there?
What about the TPS (/cofh tps) ?

TPS is showing 20 in all dimensions (twilight, and overworld). It is a new world ... maybe a day at best. The only machines I have are a GT coal boiler, and steam compressor, and a Ender IO stirling gen, sag mill, and alloy smelter. Not sure what all those numbers in my screenshot mean.

And it isn't constant like it, it is off and on, but figured if I can do something to fix it, I will.

What is your total amount of RAM?

Total 16 GB system RAM. 4 GB was being devoted to FTB at the time of this happening. I did give it an additional 2.5 GB (figured more wouldn't hurt with GT in there) and I haven't experienced it yet since upping it. Will continue to monitor it.

Try to add Fastcraft

It really works wonders.

Will look into that. Is it client side only I take it?

Have you tried lowering it to something like 3-3.5GB? Might not do anything, but worth a shot. You shouldent need that much anyway without a Texturepack.

I was constantly near max RAM though in game. Wouldn't lowering it only make it worse? Or is there something I am misunderstanding about how RAM works for MC?

You can also use it on a server, but it's not required

Understood.

Near max is ok I think. Actually think you want to try and aim for as little as possible without hitting max. Just make sure it doesn't hit max, drop down, hit max, drop down etc. That causes a lot of lag spikes.

It is just that as you hit the 4GB mark approx Java starts messing up as it cant unload the ram as fast as it loads new. You can partially help it with some java arguments. But unless you really have to you don't want to go near or above 4GB.

Keep in mind that the OS and Java's internal workings need a significant amount of memory too - with 4 GB you can hardly assign more than 2 GB to the game. But it suffices for me.

Edit: I just realized that that was not what you meant. Derp :D

Going above 4GB seemed to fix it, but only time will tell. 4 GB with the mods I have definitely isn't enough. If I took GT out, it'd be fine (was in the past) just with GT in, it isn't.
