The sentry turret, or at least in 1.4.7 Ultimate, was configured to shoot at everything.
Including players.

This may be changed in other versions.

Well is changed to not shoot players in... well in a modpack which we both happen to play which shall remain nameless to avoid derailment.

Oh.

I always avoided them due to an unfortunate incident in Ultimate (maybe it was direwolf20) involving covering my entire base with tons of turrets "for safety".

I had to abandone that base.

Not because the damage from the turrets actually did much, but due to the incessant noise and the extreme knockback that prevented me getting anywhere.

Quick query - are they configured to shoot all non-player entities?
Or all hostile mobs?

In general we should test everything that's an entity, but an unusual one.

Minecarts are all that come to mind for some reason.

Boats.
Ghast projectiles.
Blaze projectiles.
Crystals. (Those things that sit on the bedrock pedestals in the End and heal the ender dragon)
Steve's carts' carts.
Turrets, from all 3 mods. (Portalgun, the turret mod, TF2 turrets)
Blocks turned into entities by Traincraft, Archimedes' Ships or Redstone in Motion.

Or MFFS3.

Or does it move things in a different way?

The crystals are an annoying one.
You can move then with portal gun if you want, but you need to be careful.

Btw that reason was 2am.
