Ok, so i've got an MFR tree farm going with vanilla jungle trees. Its working extremely well, gathering tons of wood in hardly any time at all. However, a problem I didn't anticipate is this also gathers huge quantities of vines, which I'm not sure what to do with. Is there any way to turn them into biomass/fuel? Failing that, is there anything that can be done with them at all? I don't want to just void them.

The other problem is that there will sometimes be large quantities of saplings lying on the floor, with a large gap in the middle of the growing area. I first thought that maybe the planted saplings were just falling on the floor, but there's so many I begin to wonder if the harvester just can't keep up (the trees do grow very quickly). Is there a way to collect these saplings? Never mind, just the planter is slow on such a big plot.

You can always bug pokefenn to release vineacraft. That won't help, as it isn't even in alpha, but still.

I vaguely recall a plantball recipe, I can't be sure though. Check the uses for them in NEI.

Thats the thing - there aren't any, except for making vine scaffolding (whatever the hell that is). They can't be turned into plantballs, unless the recipe is missing from NEI for some reason. They also don't work in a bioreactor.

Vine scaffolding is MFR's version of IC2's scafollding, it works almost the same way (although I think it can extend horizontally for more than just a few blocks) and can't be used as fuel.
If you don't want to have a billion stacks of that, I believe your best option would be using another kind of tree.

So its basically useless... I guess I could always recycle them, though i'd rather not.

Is there really no other use for vines? I'm using the ftb unleashed pack + GT. Guess I should've mentioned that at the start.

The saplings that drop on the floor are from normally despawning leaves. You can either leave them if the planter gets enough saplings which it should anyway or you can collect them with a powered obsidian pipe or something else. There isn't much else you can use besides the obsidian pipe that wouldn't get in the way of the trees. At least I don't know any other way. Wood golems wouldn't work for the reason that they can take suffocation damage from trees growing in their face. I had golems die on me when they tended to pumpkins and melons.

As for the vines, not everything has an use. You will just have to live with the fact that they are useless until someone adds an use for them.

Hmm, now that I think about it I could definitely use them in building my sky base. But there is IC2 wooden scaffolds already and also the iron ones. I guess if you have extra vines it makes sense to use those instead. Are they fast to break because that's actually one thing to consider?

I decided to just recycle the vines. It seems like a waste though - I could've sworn you used to be able to make them into plantballs. Apparently not...

Recycle the vines and use the scrap for IC2 fertilizer, and feed that into a fertilizer for the tree farm.

You will never need another power supply.

You can always use the vines as "flowers" for Jungle Bee breeding purposes. :D

I also believe that they're useful at the bottom of long drops, as they slow you down without the chance of you colliding with them and then dying the way you can if you use ladders. Yes, pointless after you have long fall boots, but still. ;)
