So I have my MFR tree farm providing fuel for my boiler. It is byproducting Sludge. From what little info is given about MFR about anything, am I correct that its only application is running it through a sludge boiler for random mats like dirt, mycelium, and stuff like that? If thats it, that waterproof void pipe is staying on the harvester for good.

You actually dont have to empty it. It keep works even if its full of sludge. The best thing it makes is clay and soulsand. Just void the stuff u dont want and you get some goodies for very very little work. (couple of ender tanks and a couple of tesseracts) Just be sure to place it deeep under your base far away from you or else far away from your base with a chunk loader.

it only has to be 4 blocks away. It produces a toxic effect that will kill you while it is on, but it only reaches 4 blocks...

no reason to have it far away...I send all of my sludge to a tank and feed it into 3 (soon to be 12) sludge boilers that are kept 4 blocks below and under the tank.

I really like sludge, actually. It produces Mud Blocks, which can be broken in Mud. Mud can be smelted into Mud Bricks, then turned into Mud Brick Blocks, which are a really nice decoration block. :)

Same here, not only for the mud though. It also produces Clay which is nice so you don't have to go harvest it at the bottom of an ocean. Soul Sand is nice if you can't be bothered to go to the Nether to find some, and it also makes Heat Sand and that other stuff (I forgot its name, it's super common in the Nether though) that combine into Soul Sand. Quicksand can be useful for mob traps and can be hard to find in large quantities. It doesn't produce a lot of Peat and Ash, but both can be burned to compensate the power the Boiler uses. It makes Dirt renewable in a cheap way, even if you might not need it it could be useful. And finally the regular Sand it produces could be used to complement an already existing Sand generator (even if you don't need it, you might be able to use your power a bit more efficiently that way).

And I think that's pretty much it. Note that with GT many of these materials have a lot more uses as well which makes Sludge very nice to have.

Sludge boiler produces the following from sludge:

Dirt, clay, sand, soul sand, mycellium, hardened dirt, heat sand, hardened sand, tainted soil, peat, ashes, mud ball, mud, quicksand and dried dirt.

Some of it is extremely useful like clay, sand, ashes, then there's the semi-useful like mycellium, dirt, soul sand, peat. The rest unfortunately is more or less junk.

I like quicksand. :3 Though I have absolutely no idea what hardened dirt and hardened sand are for.

Sludge boilers are useful, I send the soul sand, sand and clay to deep storage units and send the rest to recyclers.

I'm making a villager "prison" out of the mud bricks complete with iron bars and an iron golem "jailer" to guard/protect them from the zombies. I just need to use the tablet from TT to place the mud blocks on the transition plane to auto-convert into mud balls as I need a lot of mud bricks to finish. I've been running my tree farm for a while now and have around 23k clay and almost 50k mud blocks.

Muddy armor is a good source of tutunem(?) for thaumcraft 3 research. quicksand is also a good source of the "chains" aspect.

tainted soil and heat sand can be converted into soul sand. If you are running GT, clay and soul sand can be converted into fuels and mycelium can also be processed into more useful items.

The rest unfortunately is mainly recycler fodder, which is good as the later versions of GT don't allow you to recycle cobble anymore.[DOUBLEPOST=1380118028][/DOUBLEPOST]Ash can used to convert apatite into fertilizer. you get more forestry fertilizer with ash than you do sand.

MFFS 3 (Calcavlia (sp?))
Iron ingot in the middle and 4 coal surrounding it gives you 1 Steel Dust which in a furnace gives you 2 Steel Ingots.

Edit: Default in Unleashed pack.

Mekanism from the Universal Electricity set (Ampz pack with FTB).

It isn't in default Unleashed/Unhinged but is a lovely addition.
