Hi,
I am here to talk you about some strange fps issues I am having with Optifine_HD_U_D5.With it I get about 45 Fps with all the details on the minimal setting.
Without optifine, with the same render distance and all the details at max setting I get about 80-90 FPS.
Can someone explain why is this happening ?I am really confused right now, isn't optifine supposed to boost up your FPS ?

Actually Optifine is really meant to just give you more options for graphics, not necessarily improve your FPS. For some people it does, for others it doesn't. It really depends on your own set up.

I need Optifine to even be able to play any of the FTB packs. But my processor is getting a bit old. Anyone have any luck with the multi-core aspect of Optifine? When ever I turn it on it speeds things up a good deal, but then I get loads of graphical glitches, so I turn it off again.

Honestly, I never really saw an FPS increase with Optifine (although I'm told it can happen), and now that Forge supports high(er) res texture packs, I never have to see my Iron Chests dancing again =)

Multi-core works fine for me. At least in the sense that I have the same occasional glitches with or without it, plus the faster chunk loading is so worth the glitches on my machine.

Turn off "Threaded optimization" in the NVIDIA control panel if you get graphical glitches on multi-core mode.

Also, what exact settings are you using for "minimal" and "max"? Some things are backwards in their labeling.

I just use it to turn MC's horrible blue goo from portal2 into water you can see through.

I heard Forge 644 or something is gonna be much faster though?

Aye, Optifine is merely graphical enhancements for me, too. And proper HD texture support (Forge kind of does it, but you don't get water or lava nor connected textures. Every so often, it pisses me off, though. Iron chests spin occasiojnally, no matter what version of Opti I use, and chunk loading is actually worse, no matter which version of chunk loading I use. Under vanilla, a chunk that doesn't load will eventually get around to it, under Opti a failed chunk load will require a restart to fix.

If you are getting 80-90FPS without optifine, why are you using it?

Optifine is designed mainly for "lower" spec machines (I can play Skyrim on max graphics settings, but I have to have optifine to use a 64x texture back and get 5-15 fps on a good day)

If forge advances to animated textures and connected textures, then I doubt there would be much need for Optifine in the future.

Latest Forge build for 1.5.1. Enough said, can't wait for it. It actually gets some decent FPS improvements. MCPatcher for connected textures and I won't ever see the word Optifine in my downloads folder again.

Max(No Optifine): Fancy Graphics,Clouds On,Normal Render Distance (Can't handle Far very well),Particles All and Smooth Lighting On (75-80 FPS).With Faithful 32x (50-60 FPS)
Min(Optifine): Fast Graphics,Clouds Off,Trees Fast,Sky Off,Sun Off,Smooth Lighting Off,Short + 48 Render Distance,Particles: Minimal,Default Texture pack. 35-40 FPS
I don't really know what's happening...

If you are getting 80-90FPS without optifine, why are you using it?
Well, my computer hasn't the highest specs ever, because I bough it 4-5 years ago...
I have a dual core Processor and a Sapphire HD 5450 1Gb DDR3.
It isn't the best graphic card ever, so I always thought that optifine would make my game smoother, but it actually doesn't...

Turning off "Threaded optimization" helped reduce the graphical glitches a huge amount and having the multi-core mode on is now playable, Thanks!
Know any other tips that might further reduce these graphical glitches? They still give me a headache after a while.
