Watering Cans (from Extra Utilities) in Autonomous Activators (from Thermal Expansion) placed underneath your farms do an excellent job of making crops grow stupidly fast- Overpowered, probably, but handy if you're using Magic Crops to power your base.

As for planting and harvesting, I mainly use MFR. There's really nothing else (to my knowledge) that can deal with as wide a variety of crops as efficiently. Also, it's pretty CPU-friendly.

I feel like I am cheating if I use MFR for anything but mob grinders and spawners. Much, much more balanced and rewarding than Soul shards ever was. But I just dont have any need for a stack of steak every 20 minutes nor all of those crops. Its more of a challenge finding a place to store all the crap you get from MFR farms than actually setting them up.

Always MFR. Never really cared about Forestry, even back when there were no multiblock farms.

IIRC watering cans have special code that makes them break if u use them in automatic blocks instead of using it manually yourself..

MFR, BC and TE are great for a farm.
So far I have a fast and very resourceful tree farm using IC2, MFR and BC. I'm planning to switch all the IC2 stuff (cables and generators) into TE stuff to make it go even faster!
Seriously, one tree farm can power your entire base! :)[DOUBLEPOST=1398540964][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'd say that's pretty fair. Imagine Thaumcraft lamps, Reliquary lily pads, watering cans and fertilized dirt together = OP!

It's fair. That's why the change has been made.. There is some crossmod interaction that was ridiculous.. For example, if u use the can in a 3x3 of reliquary lili pads, you increase the tick rate of the lilipads, which increase the tick rate of plants around, so basically its exponential growth as you can water all 9 lilipads and all 9 lilipads would increase the tick rate of plants at an increased rate..

It's sooooooo cheaty but I'm really enjoying my Dartcraft time torch to boost growth rates. For server play it should be outright banned. For SSP I'm cool with it since I don't run my world on a server and I'd end up with the yields over time anyway.

Magic Crops adds crops, I don't think it adds a way to automatically farm, however.

You can with mfr but I believe you don't get extra seeds. You can, unless it changed, use Rotary craft fans to literally blow the crops off then collect with a vaccum hopper. I saw Ako The Builder do the fan method and it was crazy the amount of items he got. He was running on a server though.

A good thing about those rotarycraft fans is it is a good way of taking advantage of the vanilla mechanic that crops grow faster when planted in rows.

Farming is pretty much my favourite thing to do in minecraft so I like to set up as many different types of farm as I can using all the mods I have. I tend to focus on MFR and Forestry though.

Those time torches are super nice but nasty to TPS from my experience.

Totally agree, I have no issues using them in my SSP world but I would use it rather sparingly on a server.

As for automated farming, I have and will always defer to MFR. I've played with forestry back in 1.4.7 Ultimate and a little in 1.5.2 Unleashed but it has never grew on me.

I just find that MFR suits me better. Simple, direct and straight to the point. Fertilizer is optional as well.

MFR is great for auto farming, although I prefer forestry for tree farms for one reason. Those blasted leaves. MFR gets the wood first then the leaves, which means saplings dropping on the ground. Forestry picks up all the saplings for you.

I found an interesting combination to really speed up production. I placed a Rotarycraft fertilizer in between 4 Forestry Multifarms and set it's power to cover the area. It was ridiculous how fast it made them. I just like the setup and look of the forestry farms. It also makes MFR farms go super fast as well.

That sounds interesting, would you mind posting a screenshot. My rotarycraft skills could do with improving and I learn well by imitation

This is a post I made a while back when Rotarycraft first hit FTB.
http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/rotarycraft-canola-farm-setup.41896/#post-571397
There is a section in there about the fertilizer. If you look at the 1st picture, there is a forestry farm and a MFR farm for shearing leaves(RC ethanol production). I had a fertilizer just like the one in that post covering them as well. I got 40k leaves in a night of playing....

I use the fertilizers too, as they seem to have the highest possible speed of all the options. Five to ten maxed-out on a farm can make a full 30x30 farm grow to completion in seconds.
