Sorry for kind of flooding this post but here is my tweaked setup http://pcpartpicker.com/p/X4twRB. I changed the motherboard, the gpu to the MSI one and changed the case which required me adding a couple of fans. What do you folks think?
I made some changes. You could easily fit an i5 in this budget. I switched the GPU for a slightly stronger r9 390. Also, consider a SSD down the road. A SSD makes everything much more responsive.Sorry for kind of flooding this post but here is my tweaked setup http://pcpartpicker.com/p/X4twRB. As of recent AMD drivers, the 390 and 970 are pretty much equal(with the 390 beating the 970 by a couple FPS in some cases.) But it definitely does use more power(not twice the power though. 970 uses ~180 under load. 390 uses ~250.) Also, the RAM would indeed work. Most intel motherboards(even the H81 chipset) allow you to set memory clocks/timings with XMP profiles. This is the case my current system uses. Can't have a longer than 11" video card unless you're interested in removing a chunk of drive bay.
Much as I love both Sapphire and ATI cards, I'd still have to promote the Nvidia. The 970 is slightly faster and uses a little more than half the power of the 390. On the other hand the 390's double memory might be worth if it you're playing in 1440 or better resolution.
I did see one problem with your set up Wagon. The motherboard only supports DDR3-1600. I'm not sure if that 1866 would work. I'd plug these in instead myself. That's what I'm running. It's more expensive, and not quite so fast, but it maxes out the Intel Mobo, and is half the capacity of the AMD mobo.
I'd say so. It makes things easier in the long run, since you can just install your OS right away to the SSD. As for which SSD, I'd suggest this one.Is it worth it to save up a bit extra and get the ssd right away? and if so what size and brand is good but decent price?
