(For the record: I currently play Resonant Rise, but that shouldn't affect the topic.)

After spending about an hour creating and deleting world after world because I simply wouldn't spawn anywhere near a Silverwood Tree, it occurred to me that I can't possibly be the only one who is picky about what the spawn area should look like.

So, what do you consider to be a good spawn? What do you look for? What are your deal-breakers?

My favourite spawn is one that incorporates all the bee biomes I can get. I love, love bees, and the more distinct bee biomes, the better. The ideal spawn would be near a tropical, desert, cold, forest, and plain-like biome.

In the past, I really liked finding a nice flat area to just dig down into and make a massive underground fort. Nearby trees are a definite plus.

I also went through a phase where I would always seek out a desert temple, excavate it as much as possible, and the create a secre little base underneath it (after clearing the traps) nearby villages were also fun to try to expand to surround my temple catacombs fortress.

In later days, I really took to the deep greens of sacred spring biomes and would spend many hours generating and searching around my spawn for a nice sacred spring with a decent cliff side to dig into. Ended up more than once accidentally starting a base near one of those unstable nodes that have a tendency to form atop cliffs, but I got lucky once or twice once I started being more mindful of them.

My most recent fort is kinda atop a hill in a maple forest - I was hoping for a seasonal forest with all the yellows and oranges mixed in, but the nice red trees with occasional green makes for a nice view from a hilltop fortress.

I love extreme hills and the likes. Building on cliffs/ravine sides etc is just to challenging.
But tbh I mostly just use what I get. Each biome tend to give me their own inspiration for something new.

Rivers. If I spawn by a river, I am a happy man. Nothing else matters besides the river. Rivers are awesome.

The only biome that I truly hate to spawn in is something snowy, or in the center of a mountain biome. Bleh.

first play throughs I usually go for the first 3x3 flat chunk as well as wool and food availability. kinda need basics to be easy and right there as my purpose is to get my head around new stuff. Ultimately when I find out I've done everything wrong, I start my next play through with the same requirements. Then 3rd or 4th play through are for more mod exploration then usually with something like a village or something specific. Then last playthrough I do creative and start out where spawn puts me except for snow biomes.

Plains with extreme hills on one side and an ocean view the other.

Mine is a spawn next to a village.
Anything else I want to find it doesn't take much looking.. Except villages.

I really dislike hunting them down (Had some bad run in with RNG of them >.>)

Ever since the inclusion of beds allowing you to set your spawn point I quit caring what my spawn is. I now spend the first day or two looking for what I want.

What I look for is an area that has at least 3 biomes I want joining or at least less than 100 blocks from my base to any I want.

I don't like any of the biome mods so I look for all vanilla biomes.
I want desert, a wooded area, either forest or jungle and a plains. I prefer to have a decent water source nearby but that isn't exactly necessary, as long as there is some type of water pool.

I prefer a flat area big enough for a couple full sized farm plots, some trees, and my machines. I don't like jumping around constantly when I'm doing stuff near my home. I also prefer non-deserts and non-arctic areas, so I don't have to place lots of dirt to grow stuff or deal with freezing water (though I do know how to counter that, I just don't like dealing with it).

Basically, anything that doesn't require lots and lots of work just to get started with the basics.

I use the spawn ScottulusMaximus1_5_2 or whatever version I'm in and take what I get... I'll usually scout around to find the perfect spot for my big builds once I'm all set up

I like to either be near a forest, or be in an area with light tree cover. That way, I have enough room to build stuff, and the resources to start doing it.

I generally prefer having access to all the biomes nearby. So a good spawn for me would be in the middle of all the biomes intersecting. If not, I try to have at least 3.

I like having nice woods nearby, preferably some loot, like a graveyard or a village, and I don't mind traveling to find a nice biome.

I like to spawn in a place where I can easily get a variety of resources without running for a long ways. I prefer to be near an intersection of desert, forest, river and plains.

If I could like, then like again, the like again, this post, I would.

I also love bees. My ideal spawn is somewhere near the nexus of those regions. Fortunately, in my current 1.6.4, *all* of those are directly adjacent or just 1 biome away. I got very lucky and could get at least 1 of each type and a total of 40+ Pristine Princesses with just an 85MB world save file.

I also like a spawn that is in an attractive place. Plains, Swamp, and Desert aren't that attractive, but Forest and Extreme Hills look good, IMHO. My base is at the nexus of a Forest, Extreme Hills, and Ocean. Early game, it's great to hop in a boat and sail over to yonder shores.[DOUBLEPOST=1386273946][/DOUBLEPOST]

True, this. Villages can sometimes be a PITA to find.

I have a sweet spawn in Resonant Rise at the moment (I will post the seed later) - I expect it will work just the same on any instance using the same versions of Biomes'o plenty and Thaumcraft4 and buildcraft (I think they are the only biome adding mods in the overworld but I really have no idea about how seeds affect modded minecraft).

I started out in a coastal cherry blossom forest with a project red volcano and a small Jade Cliff island. I travelled south where there was a pasture and some attractive grassland with some nice pools. Best of all though is the gorgeous bay with an island right in the middle and one of the nicest vanilla forest biome generations I have ever seen on the other side. There is a great river flowing into the bay too. I don't know if I am just lickier now but in 1.6, rivers seem to spawn like actual rivers instead of short snakes of water that silt up every 50 blocks.
