Yeah, I have no issues with the mod or its mechanics. But I just don't see why I would choose a "lagfest" (there words, not mine) over KAMI armour on a server, when they don't use blood magic chemistry.
Also... you never need more than diamond armour in singleplayer anyway, unless you have uber mobs, so again, Bound Armour is a waste of time in that situation :p

Try fighting high level Witchery/AM2/Blood Magic bosses in diamond armor and then tell me you only need diamond.

KAMI armor itself can generate lag when one of the armor pieces generates light. Also you can construct a Well of suffering without impacting system performance in a high degree. I think what your server mates are complaining about is poor user design coupled with lower end server system specs.

I use the following settings:
# The density of each flower patch generataed, defaults to 32, the lower the number, the less each patch will have.
I:worldgen.flower.density=4

# The quanity of flower patches to generate in the world, defaults to 3, the lower the number the less patches geenrate.
I:worldgen.flower.quantity=3

Seems to generate sufficient flowers. Haven't actually used Botania yet, so might be too much of a "nerf", but the world looks so much better without the flower spam.

Also, disable any "shedding" in the config. That's just another massive amount of entities floating around and extra processing.

Yeah a restarted and loaded world seems to do wayy better, and Botania looks kinda cray talk anyways I might just disable it but I'm DEFINITELY reducing the bloody flowers. Seems like a weird learning curve with lots of flowers and not much in return though.. But I'm not sure. I sure as hell need to get into Blood Magic cuz I STILL haven't and it looks badass

Yeah, Botania does seem pretty weird. aiming things that shoot magical flower particle effects, throwing stuff into a portal... Incredible overkill on the default spawn rate of flowers too. I adjusted the rates and disabled the particle effects, so I guess I will give it a chance because alternatives are good but honestly I think would rather just stick with thaumcraft. This world is just a test anyway, dont expect it to last very long with some of these buggy mods.
