FTB gives almost unlimited ways of getting ores. IC2 UU matter, gregtech centrifuge, extra bees, buildcraft quarry, redpower 2 mining frame machine, ee3 stones. Also computercraft turtles but you need a knowledge of programing. There's Thaumcraft arcane bore - which sucks Vis from nearby aura. SC2 mining cart. I think that mods from 1.5 Minecraft add another ways of getting ores. What way you want you got it.

to everybody saying bees, i am aware of how much they give, but i have very poor knowledge of them and its very hard to get started
what bothers me most is the bees needing to be in a certain biome, and i cant be bothered to be walking long distances or getting special flowers
VERY few bees need any kind of special biome other than the Nether ones, and it's extremely easy to use an acclimatiser.
Try a river biome, pretty much everything other than wintry and modest should work there.

I tend to like the various mob farms, especially iron golem, and a minium stone for the basics. I usually transmute the other basic metals.

Sigh. You ignorant twat, the ore berry bushes are from Tinker's Construct not Natura.

That's twice in less than a minute I've corrected a false-info slash troll post from you.
Heyhey hold up there, I'm most certainly am not a troll! And sheesh, calm down, I only got something wrong. I've seen you do this before to other people, please don't, it's not the most helpful thing to do...

That takes a lot to get into. Beekeeping requires a lot of stuff to get up and running, so unless Beekeeping is your main goal it's a lot of trouble to go for.

He wants alternatives. Pretty much every alternative is more 'work' than just plopping down a bunch of quarries.

Y'know what's even MORE boring than manual mining? Bees are. Yes, they are the holy grail of literally every material under the sun - but also boring as fuck. Breed your bees all you want. Staring at orange boxes waiting to gather raw materials is, I'm repeating myself, BORING. Adding complicated machines to the mix at which you can then stare before you fill more orange boxes to stare at, is also boring.

In short: F bees. :D

found a weird OreBerry last night, "Essance OreBerry Bush" took a bit to get from a pool of lava it spawned in "Tastes like creepers" I have an idea what it's for but not a clue how to process it, the U & R keys pull nothing up. I don't want to eat it lol I die from explosions to much as it is lol.

as for Bees, love the effect on trees & all the free flowers for dyes ect but to much work and yes VERY Boreing! to much like real work & I retired years ago! Would rather hand punch every block of a giant redwood from BO'P then mess with bees - by the way takes about 18 hours RL+ to hand punch said redwood depending with my lag spikes!

actually its fairly simple to get started.
meadows, modest, and rocky beeds are all thats needed to start up.
plains-type biomes, deserts, and underground.
requires a bit of forestry setup to get the apiaries and a few other things.

as for setup locations, most bees will be happy in in a plains-type with normal/normal. beaches/oceans also have this.
you will want a desert-type and a tundra-type biome nearby for the few bees that dont have normal/normal compatibility.
most bees need vanilla plants. rocky needs stone.
heres a helpful thread http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/getting-started-with-bee-breeding.28232/

UUmatter gives access to a variety of materials.

Natura adds several bushes that give berries that when smelted give one nugget of its Ingot. Bees are also a good way to get items, Steve Cart's lets you make a cart mine for you, but you need to work with it by following it or automating g it. And if play the Direwolf20 pack or a edited version of Gregtech UUM is a way to get items too. (You can do this without changes in GregTech, its just that it takes a lot longer)
Actually it's tinkers construct

How, without mining, manually or automatically does one obtain osmium?

Bees?
Nope no osmium bee.

UU?
Nope no osmium UU recipe without GT.

Centrifuge?
Nope, no GT.

OreBerry?
Nope, no Osmium Oreberries.

MFR Laser?
Nope. Gets bloody well everything else, but no Osmium - not even PowerCrystals own Nether Osmium ore.

And yes, IC2 miners count as manual mining.

Steves carts is also mining, as is quarry's, MFFS3 mining machines and any other form of mining.

This is assuming a virtually unlimited budget if most everything else, and a very limited supply of osmium.
