I've never used RotaryCraft before, but I really love the machine aesthetics and the level of detail they go into, so I'm very stoked to try out various ways to generate power.

however, I have 2 big questions..

1. Is there ways of using RotaryCraft power to power other Mod's machines, such as BC Engines or IC2 Machines? I know that there are engines in RC that go the other direction - that is, powering RC machines with BC pipes for example, but that leads me to my second question..

2. I seem to be a bit at a loss as to the applications of RC power, which is why I want to use it to power other machines. There seem to be a somewhat limited handful of machines in RC to power, and their applications also feel fairly specific. Can anyone give me some common applications / usages of RC power generation / machines?

Yes. RotaryCraft has machines to flawlessly convert to and from MJ and RF. And steam as well, I believe. No direct EU conversion, though.

Same as other tech mods. Automated farming, mob farming, mining, and ore processing. You know. The usual. And mounted railguns for fun. ^.^

Mounted railguns, I'm digging this idea, I might have to actually look into trying Rotarycraft out, is there an easy to digest guide somewhere? I've looked it over before but it looks so intimidating.

I think Bevo has a wonder 3 or 4 part spotlight on YouTube. All the stuff is documented well in-game as well through a cheaply craftable book.

I have TE and RotaryCraft as the backbone of tech in my modpack. I plan on running, eventually, solely off of RotaryCraft power. I don't know it well yet, but the server is still young. ^.^

Ah, excellent then, I'm loving the way several mod authors are taking a cue from mDiyo and adding ingame documentation, I usually play Minecraft when I'm at home offline and it's a drag having to download several dozen wiki pages for each mod I use, especially the ones with a lot of stuff to remember if you don't want your base to explode.

no direct conversion is fine! I realize what I'm trying to do is slightly atypical and should therefore require some extra effort.
Do the machines that convert from also convert to? The list of Mod Conversion Engines from the RC Wiki is:

Other Mod Conversion Engines
  • Pneumatic Engine
  • Steam Turbine
  • Electric Motor
  • Fuel Powered Engine

But the description I read in the handbook for RC made it sound like you could only convert the other forms of energy to RC's.

Yeah. I love the in-game books. I really do. I think that more mods should have them. Especially the more in-depth ones like IC2, Railcraft, and Forestry.

It's two way.

For RF it's a Rotational Dynamo for Torque -> RF and a Magnetostatic Engine for RF -> Torque.
For MJ it's a Air Compressor for Torque -> MJ and a Pneumatic Engine for MJ -> Torque.
I think the Friction Boiler and Steam Turbine are for steam interaction, one each per direction.

that's funny you said that. me and my gf were just discussing last night how much we love in game books. one problem MC has always had is that you will never experience it the way its meant to be played, if you aren't constantly learning recipes and other stuff in the wiki, and MC mods are obviously no different.

Adding in game books keeps the player IN game, as well as keeping all of the learning in game. That and a few other things is why I'm so interested in RotaryCraft - the attention to details like that make a huge difference.[DOUBLEPOST=1389213718][/DOUBLEPOST]

thank you for that info!

regarding the steam, is that Railcraft's steam power? Please say it's so! Railcraft is my favourite mod in pretty much all of FTB...

Steam is a Forge-registered fluid, so the same steam should be able to work between RotaryCraft, RailCraft, and Factorization. And anything else that uses steam, not that I can remember what those are.

To clarify... The Rotational Dynamo is a TE block, and I can put a rotarycraft water wheel under a waterfall, attach a line of shafts, and this will spin a TE dynamo to produce RF?

Despite it's appearance, the Rotational Dynamo is a RotaryCraft machine. I liked it's initial skin (so pretties!), but Reika decided to match TE's aesthetics for it instead for ease of understanding and unification of aesthetic.

And yes, you should be able to do that. That's my end goal, power-wise. Entirely hydro-powered. Because I like 'green' power, and RotaryCraft is the only one that makes hydro power as more than trickle-strength.

Awesome, I'd love to get some hydrokinetic power source going, but I am not a huge fan of the mod as a whole, too complicated for my old brain :"D

I love it all. I don't understand it all yet, but it'll come. It, TE, and Railcraft make the tech backbone of my modpack. I'm going for a steampunk/magitech aesthetic, and those three just mesh so well.

Ther is an EU conversion device listed in the handbook, although when I played it with IC2 experimental it said that the "item was disabled because it relies on another mod which is not installed" (or something like that).

all of this information is excellent news. thanks again!

we used to play on a FTB Lite 1.4.7 (minus some of the mods) for the longest time, and we finally decided to upgrade our mod pack....now we're on Tech World 2 & some Horizons mods...there's been so many awesome changes, and so many new, awesome mods :D other than it all being a little overwhelming, we are super stoked.

our only worry really was having too many mods that didn't really integrate together well, but this puts any of my current concerns to rest. i'm also super impressed with other integration...when i saw there was 2 types of rubber trees, i was a bit worried at first but then quickly realized that they are pretty much completely interchangable :)

From what I recall, that is actually for UE conversion, not IC2.
