They are not a 'rip off' anymore than a toaster is a 'rip off' for watching TV.
Perhaps 'overcharged' is a better term. When I see two different laptops, with side-by-side comparisons, and one is far weaker for the same price (or far more expensive for the same specifications) then I personally consider the worse deal to be a 'rip off'.

Psshhh you didnt look high enough! 2100 comes with 650m. A Deal! (id take one if i could, the screen is amazing)

I won't deny the Retina displays would be excellent for more professional applications. It would even be fantastic for gaming. Assuming your GPU was capable of handling the graphics at such a resolution. I'm not too sure the GT 650M would be acceptable for more than light gaming.

I agree, but the thing with Apple, is youre not just buying the hardware. Its sort of a ticket into their library/supercoolkidsclub and Apple care and other small services that many do not offer and most dont even know about. Still more than I would spend, but the average user likes to be handheld. Id never go Apple laptop/desktop if it were for purely hardware

So essentially what I was thinking as well - style, professional applications, and a computer for those who you have little confidence in their capacity to keep a PC running.

I would say most PC users should be Mac mini users... so I dont have to deal with them.
That being said I was a Mac user for ages, still like them. I remember overclocking my G3 Powermac 233Mhz to 266Mhz and installing Mac OS X beta. There were physical tiny switches a la minecraft style right next to the chip, you couldent do it through any sort of BIOS. Good times:D

Sounds roughly similar to my PC experiences. The main difference being early PCs used jumpers instead of DIP switches.
