Hi-

So I'm not great with technical stuff, so I apologize in advanced for not making sense :)

How do you update a personal server?
I'm still playing minecraft 1.4.7, because I don't know how to update my server and in addition all the modpacks on my server. I know how to update my own account. I'm just confused with the server.

Thanks for your help in advanced!

what are you updating from and going to. are you trying to save your world or clean start? (clean start is way easier due to missing mods)

I'm hosting the server myself. I'm updating from 1.4.7 and ideally going to 1.6.1 but 1.5 would be fine too. And hopefully trying to save my world. I'm using the D20 pack by the way.

When you update, some blocks' & items' ID may change. Your world should be updated by Forge automatically, but backup it first. When Yogscast changed their server to FTB, all Buildcraft pipes became sand. Try updating, and if it ruins too much of the world, go back to 1.4.7. If you just like the world's terrain, try using the same seed. Hope this advice helps.

Backup your world, delete all but the world's folder (so get rid of the old server, do a clean install. Although you might want to keep configs or anything you changed.) Redownload it from http://feed-the-beast.com/, and put it in your old directory.
If your world's name was different from the default one, world, change it in the server.properties file. Then just start the server, should work. At least that's how I've done it on my friends' server.
If it still won't work, take the world's folder to your .ftb folder and open it in Single Player. In Single Player it should tell you Forge detected ID mismatches and will fix it.
Here is another thread with the same problem: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/server-updating-preserve-world.2179/
