Hi,

I currently play the FTB Unleashed pack, and I just kind of worry a bit it will be a forgotten project like FTB ultimate. Can anybody give clarification into this, any planned future updates?

It's not really a matter of being 'forgotten'. Mod authors move on to new and better versions. No one is making 1.4.7 mods anymore, and 1.5.2 is pretty much done as well. The mod authors are all on 1.6.2 (for the most part, don't nitpick), and some skipped 1.5.2 altogether (xycraft).

Suggestion is just to play what is out there, and you can try and update your map between modpacks, but that's alot of work, when you're not even guaranteed to have updated modpacks with new versions (redpower).

There are still people playing FTB Ultimate and I wouldn't call this a forgotten or abandoned project. The 1.4.7 mods went into final versions and made a complete, almost bugless modpack. There are no updates because of new MC versions showing up. As stated before, After new version comes up, mod devs focus on it and little to no development happens towards older versions. I think that you don't have a reason to worry because FTB Unleashed should be supported for a few months from now on. Also, there's always a reason to start a fresh world because of new mods, new updates and content, just in case.

It's not as much that I want the mods to be updated on 1.5.2, I just don't want this modpack to be stuck in 1.5.2 like ultimate is stuck in 1.4.7 if that makes any sense

Probably won't happen. Ultimate is stuck because of RP2, which will likely never be updated. There aren't any mods in Unleashed that are known for disappearing randomly.

I'm pretty sure that Unleashed is the primary modpack, so i highly doubt it'll be stopped so sudden in it's release, i'm looking for the post that mentions that Unleashed is the Primary pack, replacing Ultimate. I'll add the quote once i find it

I recall reading that Unleashed (and Unhinged) are being assembled with an eye for progressing into 1.6. They are looking forward, with this one. ;)

Also, if you look at the change log, there's apparently a beta in testing for v1.1.4, while the current release version is 1.1.3. So it's being worked on, it's just a big mod pack that needs lots of testing.

and since it's a large pack, not all the mods would have been updated as of yet, so patience is a virtue, but 1.6 will be great

I don't think anyone here can guarantee with any level of certainty that both these new packs will never be version locked...

Certainly not but, as per the OP, they are planned to be updated and maintained. The unforseen events of the future are not meant to be within the scope of the question.

But they do come in to play... Was the ultimate packs eventual discontinuation planned? I'm going to wager it was a no, it was probably expected but not planned.
Any answer given to the OP that isn't "I don't know" or "no one knows" is speculating and feeding false hope/ disappointment.

The original question is a bit vague, are they asking will the packs continue to 1.6 or will the packs one day become defunct and version locked.
I think the FTB team actually do plan for the packs to be perpetual but it's these "unforeseen events" that actually do lead to the pack being left behind.

Mods come and go, mods also change (e.g. extradimensional barrels no longer exist in 1.6.2), the only way we will know if Unleashed is going to last is to look at the mod landscape in the future and see if there are sufficient mods and sufficient compatibility (which includes Forge changes) to make worlds work when upgrading to the new version of Minecraft. Clearly there was not sufficient compatibility to allow Ultimate to survive the transition to 1.5.2. It was not planned nor deliberate, and neither will the inevitable retirement (at some point in the future, maybe 1.6, maybe 1.7, maybe later) of Unleashed be. But just as you can continue to download and run Ultimate on 1.4.7, you will always be able to download and run Unleashed on 1.5.2 (until, that is, FTB Inc. goes bust and are bought out by Tekkit Megacorp).

Unleashed is basically "ultimate without gregtech". The development of the Unleashed pack, IIRC happened after the issues with Gregtech causing crashes in Ultimate when it was decided that they would have one main pack for Gregtech (Unhinged) and one without Gregtech (Unleashed). This clears up a bit of confusion with Ultimate, which was designed to be the modpack that contained ALL the mods; especially as the mod team decided that that just wasn't possible any more, given the wildly different design philosophies and spirits of the mod-makers.

So the reason why Ultimate is no longer being continued isn't because it isn't in development, it's because it was actually entirely replaced by Unleashed and Unhinged.
