I just started using relays in my base, but they don't seem to be working. I place them down and the big hole is facing a diamond chest and the small hole is facing a pnematic tube. Whats wrong with it?

I had trouble with relays in this regard. I don't think they can output into a tube. Or if they can, I was doing it wrong. It's entirely possible that i just had it backwards or something. Didn't bother putting a whole lot of effort into exploring the issue.

I just replaced them with a chest. Served my purpose the same.

Relays do not extract from chests on their own youll need to use a filter/transposer/sorting machine inplace of the relay, relays are meant for interconnecting BC/RP2 tube networks or taking items from machines that extract on their own like Thermal Expansion

This sounds right. I was probably just doing something retarded.

Just to confirm: relays do not pull from adjacent inventories. It's better to think of them as chests that automatically output their contents into tubes.

Relays act as a chest, basicly they act as a valid inventory, placing them next to another chest is like placing 2 chests next to each other. But for example if you put them next to a item tesseract, items will automaticly be put into the relay which if tubes or a chest is on the small hole output side, items will be placed into the chest/be outputted into tubes.

Better yet, think of relays as inventory-extenders. Take a sawmill that is used as a supply for planks that are burned in a boiler. By itself, the sawmill has 1 inventory slot that can hold wooden logs. Place a relay next to a (TE-blue) side of it and have redpower tubes or an item tesseract send wood to it - and the sawmill will stay 'capped' at 64 logs, as long as there is wood inside the relay. As in, the relay does not output to tubes or pipes - but it does output to connected inventories.
