everybody's making complicated engine rooms and i'm just sitting here power bridging
it's a lot easier and way easier to build
I just got myself set for all EU and MJ with a Pump in the Nether and a Liquid Tesseract wired to Thermal Generators and Electric Engines.
Takes some time, but it's one of the best and most hands-free ways to get power IMO.
Would GT pumps be better? they don't leave any flowing lava even when completed. (it's like a quarry's wall made of lava)
Aside from that many regard it as quite cheesy, it's an absolute no-go on servers because pumping lava in the Nether like that causes a lot of light recalculations which are a heavy strain on the server CPU.
They tend to go hand-in-hand, but a single one won't likely be a major issue for solo players. It's server-side, and especially server-side where ten different people are doing it, that presents an issue.I think the Chunk Loader would be causing more lag than the light calculations, but even on my craptop it runs just fine.
How is it cheesy though?
Thanks for clearing it up, it makes more sense than calling it just "cheesy".Draining hell of its fire is a very Science!-solution, but it's not terribly /elegant/ -- you're less engineering a problem away, and more simply finding a combination of mods where the problem doesn't exist.
Were we talking about strictly multiplayer-compatible energy systems? :/

Trust me, you start draining the Nether, and you'll feel it, SSP or SMP. Both the Light Calculations and the animation and block updates. Were we talking about strictly multiplayer-compatible energy systems? :/

Um yeah, I'm not having any problems with my energy setup so I really didn't need you to bash on me.Did I say that? No. Since you didn't state if this was for server play or solo I wanted to make sure you know. I'm trying to help you and you respond like this? Very mature!
You think wrong. Regarding it being cheesy; that's my personal opinion, as I specifically stated.

I would suggest, if you are on a craptop, you install Optifine then disable flowing lava animations if you ever want to not crash on entering the nether again after starting up the pump and having some hundred plus flowing blocks lag out your GPU.
Oh, another addition to my ignore list!
A statement like 'the chunkloaders will cause more lag than the light calculations' is not a personal opinion, but an attempt at stating a fact. One which is grossly incorrect. Cheesy or not doesn't enter the discussion yet. That was where your incorrect statement was.How is my personal opinion "wrong"?
You are correct in that he is painting with a rather broad brush and putting words on other people's mouths, however that is an opinion to which he is entitled."Aside from that many regard it as cheesy..."
I'm not seeing the word "personal opinion" here.
