I am playing 1.14 unleashed. For some reason I am repairing my Iron hammer. It use to only take about 6 ingots, but now it takes like 30+. I am only getting 30 durability per iron ingot. Did something change in a update? the hammer is
Iron head, cobble handle and obsidian plate and paper plate.

The more special abilities the hammer has the more it takes to repair it, so for instance say it has fortune, fire and sharpness it will take much more iron to repair than one without any abilities.

You also get diminishing returns on repairs. Even an unmodified hammer will eventually be nearly impossible to repair if you use it for long enough. That's why you should put an electric modifier on your favorite tool and keep it charged with an MPS or solar helmet or whatever you prefer.

For stuff you only use sporadically (like a shovel or battleaxe) moss also works really well. I never have to repair my stuff.

I usually only worry about my tools when I've dont tons of mining underground but honestly you should beable to easily get at least moss 2 on your tool. that will repair everything perfectly
