So I'm running into issues with my current base. Mostly a few issues with design and layout.

I can expand it sure but it is starting to just look ... meh. because of how it grew out. It is not bad mind you. Just really needs to be reformatted. At this point rebuilding it is what is needed. Since that is going to be a huge undertaking I figured might as well set up shop some place new. Both are going to take the same amount of time. But moving means a fresh build instead of retro fitting.

So I ask you folks.... What should I do?

Oh course I will post pics as it develops.

One Caveat. It will need to support all the needs you would expect. Farm, livestock, and of course machines. Becasue of this the Neither or End are not really options right now. Also I'm using mindcrack so no access to mystcraft stuff.

The poll is just there to be silly in the end I might not go with whats popular if something cool gets suggested or comes to mind.

I voted skybase, as you basically start with nothing, ALL resources have to be lugged up there, including your livestock.

Crazy thought, build a massive glass holding area, fill it with water, and build an underwater base in the sky. :D

Be a super boss and build a Nether Base.

Push your livestock through your portal. :p

Use Enderchests to get your items from the overworld (including ores, probably auto-farms, tree farm, etc.).

*Edit* Does a hydrator (steve's carts) work in the Nether? If so....I'm making nether plant farms lol....

That or if oil is still placeable in the Nether, because Oil will hydrate soil. =D

LOL that would be epic. But I'm sure the logistics of getting that much water in the sky (even with PR pumps) would drive me mad.

Is it mindcrack or dw20 cause if it's Dw20 you could make a void age for everything make it eternal day with no sealed building no torches required and virtually lag free (for now)

It depends on your preferred building style and how much you care about interiors versus exteriors. I hate making my exteriors coordinate with my interior space, especially where machines are concerned. Ergo, I build near everything underground and run lots of cool pipes and wires along the corridors. A friend of mine likes to build Mines of Moria style albeit downscaled. If I'm feeling extravagant, though, I dig up an old joke and build a 9x9 of 9x9s with one massive steeple roof over it /yayEE2

Not that you need EE2 to get that much wood/cobblestone. Two friends and I actually built that legitimately in MCX360 and Beans Louisus did that kill a lot of trees.

Do Waterworld... a floating wooden shanty town with no land in sight in any direction ;)

I am a fan of tree houses, maybe because I can never do them right.

RP rubber trees are a good way to start, as they are really massive.

My next project (if I ever get the motivation to get started xD) will involve hollowing out a chunk of land below a volcano island and build my base under there. If I ever get that finished I might do something like Etho is doing right now, a series of islands in the sky where he launches minecarts from island to island to transport stuff.

I had done something like this. I found a bunch of mountains on an island that erosion or something carved out most of one of them, and I though to build a base there similiar to the island base in Man With A Golden Gun. It was progressing will too, until I inadvertently jumped into a MystCraft age and forgot to bring a linking book. Gone, all gone. I was so very sad...

aaawww, that sucks. Couldn't you cheat your way back though? Through a Nether portal? Or cheat in resources to get to an age with a Star Fissure?

btw, I did gather the courage and I've started digging now. I found this cool website that generates a whole plan to make spheres with blocks, so I'm using that to dig out the space under the volcano. Once it starts to look like something I'll probably post some pics in the "show your base topic" :p

A nether portal would've taken me to the Nether, but with my luck, a very very very far distance from my usual Nether portal. If I had been a bit more thoughtful about it, as opposed to just being really really pissed at myself, I probably could've recovered it, but I threw up my hands, cursed and stomped around, and deleted the world. I probably shouldn't have, but...

My personal preference is toward a land meets sky setup, where you have all of your machinery and power production/sorting in a base in the sky, and all of your stuff such as farms on the ground. With this setup you can also use TC3 levitators to get in and out of your base. Added bonus for making a sky garden on your roof and connecting multiple sky fortresses to each other.

Really? TE Aqueous Accumulator can make infinite water. Just make a 3x3x1 water pool and put the machine in there.

Then pump it into a small railcraft tank and use a bucket on the tank valve. You'll get a bucket of water.

You could program a Turtle to do all the filling for you. Just add coal/lava.
