I just spent about an hour and a half, searching for my Horse, Dr. Dre, with a few of my friends, occasionally changing into various flying creatures to help my search. This game sometimes...

Anyhow, I want to hear your most ridiculous FTB moments. Go!

I suppose so, except that that thread is about foolish deaths, whereas this one is more about the game being ridiculous, as it tends to be.

Horses and Leads, let me tell you. Leads especially. The only good thing about them is that they are a pretty quick way of getting an animal from point A to point B. Don't rely on them for anything else.

Just logged back on my server. Dr. Dre is gone again. He was in a fenced in area, tied to a post. What did I do to deserve this ?:p

Once I went out to get some sheep without a map or bed. I got lost for 3 real life days and COULD NOT find my house for ages. It was so bad i just started over with the stuff I had on me. I created a new base and everything. Then after a few days when I was caving I dug straight up and lo and behold there was my old house!

I can say that I spent hours on one map looking for cows, and then leading them back to base while shaking a handful of Wheat at them. I have no idea why cows were such a rare spawn on that particular map (this was back in 1.5).

This is more DW20 1.6.4 than pure minecraft.

I was trying to build a Thaumcraft Golem Tree Farm. So I'd finally made the three golems, including the annoying lumberjack one, placed them. I don't think that I'd done much, so set up the planter guy to only do a few trees as proof of concept.

Walked away from the base to do something else, came back to find no golems.

I built a Steve Cart's tree farm instead.

In my current Monster world, I set up my base and got a smeltery up and running very quickly. I was lucky to find a surface lava pool about fifty or so blocks north of my base. I needed to get an emerald for silk touch on my TiCo steel pick, so I set out looking for a village.

Seriously, it was ridiculous. I must have gone about 1500 blocks south from my base. I hit almost every point south and west for a thousand or more blocks and came up empty. I returned to base after hours of searching, restocked, then set out again to hit the southeast quadrant. One again...nada. Thousands and thousands of blocks searched, no villages ANYWHERE. At the end of many, many hours of searching, I was far east and slightly north of my base, tired of searching and about ready to just cheat in a damn emerald and be done with it. So I gave up and headed back toward my lava pool, planning on grabbing a bit more obsidian on my way home.

What do I find?

Yup. A village. Literally RIGHT F'N NEXT to the lava pool I've hit up dozens of times. The border was basically located about one block outside of render distance from my lava pool.

Grr...

If you're using ATG, that would probably explain it, because ATG doesn't seem to like villages, tending to spawn them only in the water.

^ This guy

One of my friends moved his horse into it's pen. I'm not sure what I'm going to do to it in revenge...

So I decided that I wanted to get a Project Red Dyed Saplings Generation system going. So step 1, go and get dyed saplings for the colours that I'm missing. That was a lot of flying (I've got flight on my Modular Power Suit), finally get the light blue one (which is hard to find as they look a lot like Silverwood trees). But I only got the one sapling.

OK, let's plant it, and hope for the best. It grows, I cut it down and harvest the leaves. No saplings.

Right, off to find another one. I did, I cut it down and harvest the saplings. 1 sapling. It's yet to grow.

Does anyone know if there are different sapling spawn rates for the different colours? I was at one stage manually planting and growing blue and orange trees, and I was getting a heap more saplings off the orange ones.

I have to say that the mob AI (I assume that animals basically use the same AI as enemies) can be really annoying at times.

You put animals in pens, and they just stand at the wall jumping up and down. It would seem that they decide on a place they want to go, and they are going to try and get there if it's the last thing that they ever do. I've set up 4 different pens (chickens, sheep, cows and pigs), and I have auto breeders and chronotypers pulling out the babies. The babies are placed on a conveyor which takes them to a smaller pen, where once they're adults, they are auto killed by a grinder. The number of babies on the conveyor at any time because they're trying to run against it, means that they sometimes mature before they get to the pen.

Another time I snagged a Pec so that I had an easy way of trading with him, but if I left him in a pen with walls, he'd just jump up and down at one.

On a side note (I don't know if this is Thaumcraft or Vanilla MC), I've got a harvest golem for my mana beans, I built two walls with beans on both sides and the two golems are based in between. When they try and get around to the other side, they get stuck on the pods, and are therefore unable to reach their target. I swear sometimes it's like Daleks and stairs.

Tartarus.. I mean at work. Same thing really.
something on the MFR wiki mentioned animals don't like being separated from their babies you cruel people.

And as a general rule of thumb- unless it has a 'solid' top part blocks really screw with mob AI/Pathfinding.
I assume Azanor used the same AI for his golems in TC4 and TC3;
NPC village in a EBXL redwood forest- I'd use the axe of the stream to farm giant redwoods and TC greatwoods.
The wooden golems would parkour everywhere to pick up the saplings. Those little guys has insane pathfinding skills.
Yet get one to walk over a redpower cover....

I noticed before that animals really hate non-vanilla walls. Replace them with vanilla ones and they stop jumping.
