I recently made a power plant that was supposed to run on blaze rods, but I found out that Thermal Foundation makes blazes drop sulfur. Is there a way I make them drop blaze rods again?

How odd. As far as I know, the only way to get sulfur from thermal expansion was to pulverize blaze rods.

Maybe it is a config option?

Edit: I just went into another world, killed some blazes, and they dropped rods. Then I went into my survival world, got another soul shard (what I use to spawn the blazes) and it dropped more sulfur!! WTF

Maybe it's a config option in the soul shard mod that is preventing the blazes from dropping their regular drops?

Are you killing the spawned blazes yourself, or autokilling them? My mob farm in Infinity doesn't produced blaze rods, even though blazes do get spawned and autokilled. I'm not sure if that's because I'm using a Well of Suffering (though I seem to get other drops just fine), or if blaze rods are now a player kill only thing.

My Infinity mob processing development has two Blaze Spawners in it currently, and I may be doubling that soon. They drop blaze rods and occasionally sulfer. By occasionally, I mean about 25% of the kills drops sulfer in addition to the rods. I'm using MFR grinders and a TiCo sword mostly, but I suspect it to be true for all blaze kills.

What pack are you using? I suspect either a config error or a mod conflict.

What version of Infinity are you using? I'm trying to figure out if it's the Well of Suffering or a conflict somewhere that's stopping me from getting any blaze rods.

They are being autokilled by water.

I noticed this too. If they die in water, they drop sulfur, and at a painfully slow rate, as well. I guess the water's putting them out or something. Use an MFR grinder and you'll have plenty of rods.

I've run my farm complex since 1.2.1 all the way into 1.4.0 so far. I've not delved into BM yet, so its possible the Well of Suffering is somehow messing with things. I've got a friend setting his well soon, so I'll drop a spawner up there and see what happens.

Blaze rods are a player-only drop. They've always been a player-only drop. They're THE reason why mods add all these fancy grinder machines to simulate player kills.

Kill them by hand, or use an MFR Grinder, a Killer Joe, a Turtle, a Dynamism Tablet, an Autonomous Activator, ExU spikes, or just about any other block that uses fake players.

Upon further review, this is your problem. Water is probably the least efficient method of killing blaze, and it doesn't produce the blaze rod to boot.

I have a substantial portion of my power grid running off blaze rods (8 MFR Steam Boilers -> BR Turbine), and there is no way water will kill blaze fast enough to keep up with the demand. As is, I have two blaze spawners on cursed earth (killed by MFR grinders) and I'm looking to add a third to keep up with the demand. I'm supplementing these currently with a MFR Autospawner from time to time to build stock when low, but using the power to create the fuel seems counterproductive and inefficient.

Actually, killing blazes with water DID give blaze rods at some point, though I don't remember exactly what version of MC that was. My guess is FTB Ultimate/Unleashed, round the time of MC 1.5.2 and 1.4.7. I know this to be a fact, as I myself built a spawner using a Tier 5 Soul Shards spawner and water, which gave me infinite free blaze rods (though funnily enough, I never used them for power gen). Not trying to hate or anything, just saying that this is something that isn't really brought up anywhere else (I myself tried to do the same thing and asked about it in the "Ask a simple question..." thread). ***Should've tested it first I guess***

I'm not sure what pack OP is running, but any of the heavy hitter mods (and a good deal more up and comers) can kill the mobs more efficiently using power that can be generated by the blaze rods in a net positive production.

Soul Cages would spawn special versions of their mobs that would drop player-only drops without needing a player. Again, they were coded to do this because vanilla Blazes do not drop blaze rods.

That^^^

Blaze rods are a "rare" drop(that;'s not actually that rare). So will only drops if a player kills it(or any one of the myriad of modded options), HOWEVER in 1.4 with Soul Shards you could kill a blaze with water and get it's rare drop.

If you're running on Infinity and have a little draconium dust handy, a Draconic Evolution grinder is frighteningly efficient at killing things in mass numbers. Its also got the option to run off of coal (and other furnace fuels, methinks) if you don't have a steady source of RF available. You'll want an MFR sewer and some form of mass fluid storage, though, to handle all the experience orbs.
