Hello:
I watched the Minecrack feed #66 and slowpoke mentioned that Thermal Expansion can change ore distribution. I checked the config and it has listings for copper, tin, silver, and lead. Can it modify other ores like gold, iron, and diamonds?

Nope, because those ores are not generated by Thermal Expansion. The mod can only configure what it does itself.

If you want to change vanilla world generation, you need a standalone mod that is dedicated to doing just that, such as Custom Ore Generation.

Hmm? What? Your changelog says nothing about integrating vanilla ore generation! Speak up if that's untrue :p

No, you're correct. The changelog doesn't say anything about it. It's not a full feature yet, just something I threw in at the request of certain parties. I'll make a real announcement when I've finished up the world gen.

Can someone clarify what the config optiona do exactly? I want to increase tin and copper a little bit. But what happens if I change the copper minimal spawn lever to, lets say, 20? Does that mean that the amount of copper stays the same but it also shows up in level 20?
And wich option causes the veins to increase? I see cluster size and numcluster. What is the difference?

What I'd actually love to do is turn all ore gen into factorization style ore gen, large nodes that are very spread out, trying to figure out exactly how to do that though has been awkward

"clusterSize" is the size of the cluster.
"numClusters" is the number of the clusters.

clusterSize 4 with numClusters 6 gives you an average of six ore veins per chunk, each of which has a maximum of 4 ores in it (but may contain less).

Spawn heights do not effect the amount of ore generated unless you make the band so narrow that there's not enough room for all the veins to be placed.

There's a weird bug when clusterSize gets really big. For example, for copper I set clusterSize=72, numclusters=1 in order to do the same thing that Antivyris wants. In theory, this should generate the exact same amount of copper as the default config. In practical applications though it generates veins over 2,000 blocks in size. (I already reported this to King Lemming).

Strictly speaking it's not a bug - I had just told you incorrectly. I had originally set it up as linear, but then went back and cribbed from vanilla so that the generated shapes fit in better. I'll likely remove or cap ClusterSize.

Ah, I see.

Please don't remove clusterSize, it's super fun! ;) We just need to better understand how it behaves when changing the numbers.

There's a way to figure this out actually, just takes a bit of time, and changing some configs around. You can mess with the ic2 miner and only have dirt/stone/gravel in the config, that will remove almost everything except ores

WEith forge essentials you can use world edit commands to remove everything but ores in a certain area.. Heres a screen shot I took while trying to figure out if mystcraft used Thermal expansions ore tweaks ( I still cant figure out if it does.. Im leaning towards that it does because i only saw 1 type of tin like I should have)

You just use the //wand command to set your wand to whatever is in your hand and then left click the top left of the area and right click the bottom corner on the oppisite side and make a 3d rectangle or square selection then type //replace 1 0 That replaces Stone(1) with air(0) You can change the first number from 1 (stone) to grass dirt gravel ect.. its just the ID of the item

Now this thread here is going about ores. I noticed that in myscraft ages there are more types of copper/tin/silver. Anyone an idea whats up with that?

Thats actually why I did that and took that screen shot in the first place I was trying to figure out if myscraft uses thermal expansions ore tweaks.. In my mystcraft ages there is only 1 type of tin etc that I have found anyways.. So maybe I am unlucky in finding ore or they changed mystcraft to use the configs for thermal expansion.

MystCraft rips straight from the Ore Dictionary as far as I can tell. I believe xcomp told me as much before, but I can't say if he's changed it or not.

If that's the case then I have messed up the config files myself (yes I'm from the kind that can't leave them alone) However, I haven't found any other types in the overworld then those from TE. So the statement from King Lemming (himself) seems more likely. I will take a look in my overworlds if there are more types of ores there, I usually do the extensive mining in mystcraft ages.

I'm certain that in my Mystcraft worlds (1.4.5 and later) it follows the configs unless you have the dense ores symbol then it completely ignores configs and also ignores biome specificity at least it did in 1.4.5 not sure about now haven't made a dense ores throwaway yet :)
