Just a thought (in the hope it exists) ...

Wouldn't it be nice if one could weight the biomes in the config. I don't mind the odd patch of tall trees and snow, but at a lower frequency.

I spawned on an Island. The Island wasn't tiny but it was made out of only one Biome, Meadows.
Around the Island was nothing but Ocean.
On the Island were a few Trees, Bee Hives, Chickens and a small village, nothing special, just some Houses.
I had to plant my own little Forest.
Everything was quite fine until I needed Waterproofing. So I crafted some Boats and explored the Ocean, I didn't find a single Cactus, but some Rubber Trees.
I also had no cows, so Mystcraft wasn't an option.
I went back home and did it the hard way, with Bees. Unfortunaly every Bee I found was Meadows and I slowly started to produce Wax with them.

Currently the only thing you can do is remove the biomes individually or cross your fingers and hope for an adequate generation.

7 out of the 28 biomes from ExtraBiomesXL are snow-based - that's 25%!

Well, to be fair winter does make up 25% of the seasons. ;)

I haven't had any particularly bad spawns, nothing I couldn't work with. It's just that I haven't had any memorable spawns, either. Pretty lackluster all around. No interesting terrain features and often difficult to find crucial resources. For example on my current map the continent I am on extends about 2Km from my base in all directions. No desert in the lot of it. Making waterproofing quite difficult to make. I ended up having to toss 20 books at Mystcraft before getting a sizable enough number of symbols to make a semi-stable age with a desert biome.

Nothing really beats my first Minecraft world. Not so much because of nostalgia but because the terrain was genuinely interesting. I spawned on a beach, ocean to my back, mountains with a box canyon right in front of me. I dunno what it is with my random seeds since then but I rarely get hills that top Y80 or 90, let alone those mountains that went up to Y123. :(

Can i move to your place? we got winter for around 40% of the year around here it seems.
It starts with the roads freezing in early november, and spring ain't around til april.

The OP looks like the spawn I got when I started my MindCrack world. It was an alpine biome (mostly snow-covered stone with patches of coal or dirt with fir trees). I was about to move on to greener pastures before I spotted a village within 50 blocks of spawn. Then I figured that since this was MindCrack and the configs are set to hard I would damn the torpedoes and make a go of it. The first thing I did was scale the closest fir tree and get some wood for slabs, which I placed on top of the ice blocks in the village's farms to keep the water blocks active. Once that was done I had all the food and shelter I needed to I got to work mining. I've started building my marble tower base: http://i.imgur.com/fdrsV.png

Oh, I forgot to mention that I haven't seen rubber yet, or large trees, or a swamp. The lack of land makes exploring for biomes somewhat annoying.

This is the first one I got when I tried the DW20 pack, same seed on Mindcrack pack too. I tried to make a go of it but I gave up after about 10 mins.

Large Biomes.
Seed: 64756620

I didn't think spawns like this were even possible. Check it out.

Oh my god. That is insane haha

I'm not entirely sure, but what that post that you linked me to says to delete 2 or so mods from the pack but those mods don't show up in the list. :/

Just got another annoying one when I started a new map with the V5 of DW pack.

Seed is 1563655235058877510
No world gen changes(regular sized biomes)

I decided to stick this one out.
Swam for a good while until I actually found an island with 1 single tree on it. Worked my way up from there like the old Water seed for those who remember that one. Finally built another portal in the nether 400 blocks away from the first and am on regular terrain. Now to move all my crap over here to new base.

That's not even close to bad. Try spawning in the middle of the ocean on an island with no trees and then swimming in one direction until you die of hunger.[DOUBLEPOST=1359288535][/DOUBLEPOST]People really hate snow that bad? insane...

This is the only forum that I have seen that involves spawning. I am having some serious trouble, and I am new to FTB. Whenever I spawn, I spawn on a single piece of bedrock and the rest of the world is empty. Can anyone help? If there is a post about this, could someone link it to me?

You must be using the Retro pack, not the regular one :p

I got something I thought was a shite spawn for quite a while. Spawned on a fair-sized island made up of NOTHING but giant fir winter forest biome, with the FTB Beta A pack. I tried to stick it out, and noticed that the Extra Biomes woods couldn't be used for some mod-related craftings. However, after digging down for what was -going- to be a bedrock mine, I happened across some stone brick. I broke thru that, and lo and behold, I'd hit a stronghold! Under 150 meters from my spawn. Needless to say, I moved in and lived as well as could be.

My worst ones tend to see me spawning in a treeless meadows biome the size of Texas, bordered by ocean, and some kind of winter biome. What's worse, a hell spawn point I had in one of my worlds placed me right on the EDGE of a tiny island of netherrack floating at about Y-level 120, with nothing but lava to break my fall, should I go down. Another irritating biome to spawn in is the weird swamp-type biome that Extra Biomes brings in, with small lines of dirt and deep-ass water holes between em.

Oh, and one time, I spawned on an island that spawned nothing. But. Pigs. I NEVER saw a single cow, sheep, or chicken. All pork, all the time.

hmm... bonus chest won't work on this spawn because of the massive ocean. However if you give yourself a sapling, a wooden pickaxe, and a torch - you can survive and grow by descending into the oil fountain and living in the almost bedrock layer cave inside. You'll need to clear out the dirt by hand and plant the sapling next to the torch - punching off mobs with your hands (or building a wall) to survive long enough for the tree to grow. Eat the apples.

may accept this challenge at a later date :D

Heh, I know how you keep you out of my base then. On Tahgcraft I set out 4k from spawn, found a RP volcano in a snow biome. Loving it.
when I first started playing on a tekkit server my first base was made inside one of twin volcano's, in a snow biome... then I moved to a swamp, then to the ocean... then I quit for FTB :D
