My computer has never had an issue running this game. I use optifine because I like to fine tune what is going on and it's always worked great. With this new version+ftb pack, the game runs terrible. Vanilla 1.4.6 runs terrible as well. I've tweaked optifine as best I can but to no positive results.

Is anyone else having this same issue?

I'm having some performance issues as well, there is a lot of stuttering, and even running at max fps it doesn fell right. No idea how to fix it, or what is causing it tho.

I turned everything to low for one. I did go in to my Nvidia control panel and set Threaded Optimization to Off. Also, for some reason, my Vsync was back to default (On) so I set it off and now I'm getting good FPS.

Try disabling them big trees for extrabiomes gen. I was noticing major lag when i would spawn in a new world with them big redwood trees.

I've noticed just running the server has been quite a pain in the arse. I really feel like my dual quad core 8 GB dedi shouldn't be having slight lag with Minecraft ever.

I set up a minecrack server and its pretty laggy. blocks coming back and stuff.. other beta server worked fine.

Guarantee that it might be because of optifine. The 1.4.6 version is pretty buggy. Check out the official MCF and read the last 5 or so pages and you'll see just loads of bugs. Some of which include lower FPS compared to the 1.4.5 version with using the same mods and the same settings in optifine. Just wait till optifine updates.

Even vanilla 1.4.6 was running cruddy until I changed the option in the Nvidia settings. My FPS is ok now.

I can't' disable those big ol trees. My favorite biome! ;)

I'm using optfine just because I have a texture pack, also its nice to customize your video settings.
Setting my view distance to normal -16 did the trick, almost no lag, unless I'm surrounded by redwood trees.
Also, my server is running fine (3~6 people) with 4gb of ram.

Im thinking it is Rei's minimap. I've tested with and without and i get small lag spikes when i have it installed. I still am lagging a bit even when it's not installed. Optifine i believe is the culprit of this.

This was my problem as well, thanks! as soon as I disabled it, the frame drops I was getting (about 1/2 a second of frames every 3-4 seconds) disappeared completely.

now, if only the intel IGC I have would let me disable vsync...It lets me allow the application to choose, but I can't find how to disable it with optifine installed.

Not sure if it would fix server lag...are you connecting to the server, or hosting it? also, what are you getting for lag? I was just getting framerate drop and stuttering but if you're getting block lag that's probably a different issue.

Well its on a local machine, it ran the beta server just fine and then i switched over too the minecrack one and yeah it just doesnt feel as smooth and block lag.. the server is set to offline mode also so idk what to do?

Seems to occur on certain worlds for me. Dreadful FPS in this one world where we had strange spongey grass formation going straight north and south if the elevation went below sea-level. I figure some bad stuff in chunk generation.

We saw similar issues on our first server world with the Mindcrack pack with some pathological world gen - a 1 chunk wide north-south band of the ExtraBiomesXL Marsh biome (grass intermixed with water), which extended into the ocean as well. Near that band, it lagged like hell. Once we regen'd, we didn't see any pathological biomes and the game run much smoother again.

Same here, I've only tried the mindcrack pack so far and exploring is just terrible. Chunk errors/not loading all over the place, loads of stuttering and generally low fps, things I never have issues with (or at least not as severe as they are now) and I'm not even running the full pack...

I'll probably wait for the ultimate pack though, I'm still missing some mods I really like in the packs I've seen so far (and I hope those will be in the ultimate pack :p).

I'm not having any fps issues but the 1.4.6 server took a performance hit. It's like a night and day difference between 1.4.5 and 1.4.6 in performance. No idea what they did but flickering blocks is quite common.
