I unlocked the Eldritch tab and researched everything I could in it including voidmetal, but am still unable to see the Opening the Eye research. Previous to unlocking the Eldritch tab I read the Crimson Rites book (which gave me warp but I don't think anything else). The Crimson Rites book now says it is "currently disabled". Scanning the book does nothing, crafting 9 knowledge fragments together does nothing.

Sanity checker is 100% full (mostly temporary warp, but some permanent). Any suggestions?

I'm running Thaumcraft version 4.2.1.4 inside the Direwolf v1.0.3

You might have to *actually* Open the Eye and visit the Outer Lands to unlock that research. Track down four Eldritch Eyes (most likely dungeon loot or Crimson Cultist drops, not sure which; you probably can't craft them yet) and click them on the pedestal underneath an eldritch obelisk. If you haven't found one of those, craft a Sinister Lodestone. It'll help point you toward sinister nodes, which could be located in an obelisk, a barrow hill, a totem, or a couple of other things that I'm forgetting.

Maxing out your warp isn't really necessary (to my knowledge), by the way. You really just need enough to fill your sanity checker to about the top of the lower band to unlock the Eldritch tab; any more just makes your symptoms worse. Also, how did get so much temporary warp without going to the Outer Lands? Or do you mean "sticky" warp (the kind you get from some researches (and probably crafting) that says "You have gained Warp!")? The only way to actually get temporary warp in measurable amounts that I've found is to stand near to one of those glyphs in the Outer Lands. You can get a little by punching certain champion mobs (i.e. a mob named something like "Warped Zombie"), but after spawning in and thousands of zombies and stabbing them with a Voidmetal Sword, I only got one Warped Zombie and one "You have gained temporary Warp!" message, which didn't show anything on my sanity checker. The outer lands, on the other hand, maxed out my checker in a matter of minutes.

Thanks, I'll go looking for some eyes. Weird that you have to know how to do it before it tells you though...

To get a bunch of temporary warp, I ate about a stack or two of zombie brains (I used "ice trapdoor" roads to run down my hunger).

Interestingly, I expected to see some sticky warp on my meter from crafting a few flesh golems but the meter only shows I have permanent and temporary.

Huh. Now that's a good trick with the zombie brains. I'll have to remember that next time I want to run my warp up.

I'm not sure what the reveal condition on the Opening the Eye research is. Actually doing it is my best guess. It could be picking up an Eye, or killing a Cultist, or crafting something out of voidmetal, or pretty much anything else.

Opening the Eye requires the Eldritch Revelation (the second core eldritch research), and based on my recent experience, it seems to be a random warp event that gives the revelation, akin to the clue for the purifying salts, but as an auto-unlock which acts as a prereq for other researches. The void robes are also gated behind this.

The only condition you are missing for the research is you manually updating Thaumcraft, since in 4.2.1.4 the dimension in not implemented yet (and that's why your book reads "currently disabled").
Be mindful that altars generated before the actual implementation of the "Eldritch" dimension MIGHT (as in, pretty commonly) not lead ANYWHERE, causing death via falls to void. Before actually traversing the eye save, make a backup, and try. If all goes well, go ahead. If not you have a backup, so no lost possessions :D

(the might not lead anywhere ALSO applies to creative-spawned ones.)

Ok I've just updated to the latest version (4.2.3.5), and the book no longer says "currently disabled", but I still can't right click to read it, and the research still isn't appearing

You should have already right clicked the Crimson Rites book before, right? Check under the Basic information tab if you have the Crimson Cult research unlocked. If you don't, something went wrong and the research was actually never unlocked. You can try with a new book and see if it somehow unlocks, or use the /tc research playername CRIMSON to forcibly unlock the research connected to the book.

If it is unlocked, prehaps you never recieved the event for the unlocking of "Eldrich Revelations", a research under the Eldritch tab. It's on the left of "Eldritch Epiphany". It's triggeret when you have a more or less full bar of warp and a warp effect happens. Bear in mind that in the version you are on the warp effects degrade of intensity and frequency (to a stop) unless you aquire some more warp (that resets the warp to full force).

If you have both, than something went very wrong since i don't remember scanning something as necessary for the unlock. I might be wrong, but, eh, that's my experience. Anyway, if anything else fails, the command for the unlock (you'll be skipping a research here, contrary to the crimson rites research) is /tc research playername OCULUS.

Just in case, the command for Eldritch Revelations is /tc research playername ELDRITCHMAJOR

Yep, caps are needed.

Hopefully you'll not need commands to enjoy your Warpyness :D

If someone still follows this discussion, hi! I don't now how else to post my question, so I'm posting it here. I recently started with the latest version of thaumcraft, and despite that I still have no clue of what I'm doing, I made some progress. But now I came across an interesting mob, and I don't know if I misted an upportunaty by killing it. I'm talking about a regular zombie, but with purple aura particals around it and the name "warped zombie". If annyone knows annything about this, please let me know!

Firstly, there is a thread (it's stickied) for these sorts of questions known as ask a simple question, get a simple answer, which is a good place for small questions, which is generally preferable to reviving a thread that has been left inactive for a decently long time.

But to answer the question, that mob is known as a champion mob, it's tougher than a normal one, and has effects based on it's prefix. Warped can give you tempory warp when it hits you, but there are many prefixes. These champion mobs drop one of thaumcraft's loot bags, which generally contain gold coins and other things. (I usually find it's some gold coins, an ingot or gem, and a potion.)
