so im having an issue with researching the either of these. im all the way to tier 3 and have that wand as well. but i have no idea what im not doing to get it. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening?

Dark node area perhaps? Also if you were playing with any of the wands or tools or crafting a lot in the area... all these things create flux.
But minute amounts of it. You get to dangerous levels of flux with either a dark node or by dumping stuff into the aura. If you're careful about those things, then you can keep your flux at a minimum constantly.
Lol you guys got off topic. the issue isnt flux or not knowing what i need to use. its that its litterally not researching either. i put an ender pearl which includes aleinis for the portable hole. and that doesnt seem to want to be researched. like im missing something. same with the arcane bore

90% of the TC researches provide a hint in the item name- such as portable hole would suggest a certain aspect. And the bore is a magical piece of mining equipment.
As long as you have the previous researches you can then get them.
well heres the weird thing. i just got to tier 3 and did advanced golemancy (iron) and theres one thats showing up but not flashing like i can research it. its dulled out. theres nothing else connected to it. none that are shown. so maybe a hidden research i need? but i dont have a complete thaumanomicon

Hole should be in, have you researched Hungry Chest?
To open some paths you have to guess and find secret research but not for Portable Hole.
Knowledge fragments are normal chest loot and you need 9 to start a new research. You should wait until you have everything else before doing that research as you can get one of the normal researches if you have not done them yet.

I couldn't research the portable hole until I had finished the Theory of Everything. The same was true of the hoe of growth. I'm not sure how Thaumcraft tiers and biases these things, but the ToE pretty much consumed my research table once it was available. I couldn't even study golems!
Well the Hungry Chest is the requirement for Portable Hole. You should be able to start the research if you have that.
