Hi
I've just started a new world in the FTB Monster pack after some time away, and it's fantastic. Some of the new mods are great and I'm looking forward to playing around with the new Thaumcraft. However, I've got a problem I need some help with.

I spent some time setting up a base, which I really like. However, I was exploring the area nearby and I found a large tainted area about 300m from my house.

I wanted to know a few things.
1. Will the taint spread to my base? I really don't want to move my stuff, as I've already done a load of building.

2. If it will spread is there anything I can do to get rid of it? I've heard you can wall off areas, but it's very, very large and this would be a huge task.

3. Do tainted areas just appear randomly - I thought they only occurred from misusing Thaumcraft?

Thanks for any advice.

1. Depends on config. You can disable it if you want.
2. Ethereal Bloom and Silverwood trees with pure nodes. Also rainbow trees if you have Dye Trees.
3. Yes, they're basically worldgen. I'm not positive if flux can cause taint.

If the configs aren't set to disable spread, the taint will eventually reach your base if it's chunkloaded. To get rid of it you'll have to either dig it all up or use some Ethereal Blooms that are fairly deep into TC4 research. Also, you'll have to find out if there's a tainted node in that area and break it if there is one.

Taint is also a world gen feature now, and if setup in the configs, can come from (heavy) misuse of TC4.

Edit: Ninjas everywhere.

In 4.1 by default taint does NOT spread neither flux causes it. Only way to get taint is during word gen and 8 blocks around taint node. So you will be fine. If it is a server and for some reson it is set to spread taint isn't to bad to contain. It spreads the way grass does so you can just build wall 4 blocks hight around your base or taint itself and will be safe. Just remeber it spreads underwater as well so make sure to cover everything.

To cure it as mentiond before you need some ethernal bloom or pure nodes. Ethernal bloom is easier to do as you can move it easier after its done its job. Divide taint into sectors with walls and cure 1 sector at a gime.

It actually does spread by default.
