A system wherein a plasma beam can neatly truncate itself at ruffly 3 feet, interact with similar beams in such a way that they repel each other, all while having a power supply that fits in the palm of your hand...... do tell please...... Yes every now and then you'll see someone talking about this or that advancement in laser tech, or somesuch but it is all far from a hand-held plasma torch able to slice and dice armored plating yet still able to be used in a traditional duel.

That has been done. Minus the "fits in the palm of your hand" bit. The actual machine takes up an entire football field last time I checked.

Last I heard they got 6 lasers firing at each other to interact.... in that they truncated on a central point where all six where firing from opposing trajectories........ great tech, but no lightsaber...... more like something you would use in the death stars reactor. Calling that system a lightsaber is pure hyperbole trying to sell type.

No, it wasn't that system. It was a system that allowed you to control how far light went. I have no fucking idea how that works though.
