Ah. Got it, thanks! I'm on normal, seeing as I'm not good enough for expert yet. Idk how to get as good as everyone else seems to be at this.

Do Big Reactors use 8x the usual amount of fuel in normal or expert mode?

Yes they do. However, i've got a basic big reactor cooled with liquid redstone that's powering my ender quarry with a level 2 speed upgrade, the quarry is producing more
yellorite than the reactor uses during the mining run, so it's not too big a deal.

It's already been answered. But that doesn't really answer it, as it doesn't specify which one uses 8x. I haven't gotten a reactor up yet, but I sure hope it's only expert mode that uses 8x. For now, I'm gonna mine this huge cave system near my base till it's drained. Thank God for IE storage crates. I have quite a few of those from looting villages.

From what i have been told, the fuel use of all reactors built with the big reactors mod is multiplied by 8 and the power output is multiplied by 0.25.

I think they did that to make is harder to produce huuuge power output.

So far i'm worrking on a HUGE steam contraption whilst my IC2 nuke plant is working its way through all that Uranium...

Hi all,

Back at the nuclear plant you guys helped me with :)

Righto, I've got 1000 quad uranium fuel cells going through the IC2 nuke plant and I have automated the creation of the MOX fuel rods.

For the plutonium, should i just build a second reactor for that one?

Assuming your first reactor is running off of Uranium Fuel Rods, build a second reactor using one of the MOX designs. The MOX designs are a bit restricted as, to preserve the reactor heat, they do not use components that cool the reactor. You typically place some fuel rods in the reactor to pre-heat it, to between 7000 and 9999 depending on your tolerance for being damaged when near the reactor, things catching fire, or melting into lava, in the 5x5x5 box around the reactor (or is it 7x7x7?). Then place all the components. Then pipe in the MOX fuel rods and turn it on. (Note that, in any design that has Reactor Plating as space fillers, the heat capacity of the Reactor is correspondingly higher. )

The act of crafting MOX fuel rods combines a small quantity of plutonium, with the boring U238 that you will have a massive surplus of from processing Uranium ore. When you process the depleted MOX rods, you get ALL the plutonium back, plus a surplus. This makes MOX reactors the actual breeder reactors as you get more fissile materials out than you put in - converting the non fissile U238 to plutonium. Neat.

This should be your actual source of plutonium for the Evolved endgame requirements as you should have a lot more U238 than U235.

Awesome, thanks :)

In my nuke plant i'm using the EU to power the machine that makes UU Matter with scrap boxes and then that's being used to make Iridium.

Update - sometime late in the evening when I should be sleeping!

It is going to take a looong time for the reactor to burn through all those lovely quad cells of Uranium...

My base now has fully automated the conversion of mined Uranium into quad cells to be send to the reactor, and used cells are automatically converted into Plutonium cells.

Hi Guys,

Been working on other things whilst the original reactor churns its way through over 1000 quad uranium cells (It's going to take a while!) My ender quarry is burning through a 16 x 16 chunk grid, so Uranium is pouring in.

I have 4 x Quad MOX fuel cells now, nearly 10,000 uranium 238 and a mountain of quad uranium cells awaiting processing.

I'm going to build a second reactor chamber using the reinforced stone, what design do you recommend for the MOX reactor?

I am wanting to breed a ton of Plutonium for further use :)

Hi All,

Just updating this thread... I am STILL working my way through those 1000 Quad uranium cells!

Building MOX reactor now, will post pics when it's done.

My next quarry will be 100 x 100 chunks with max speed upgrade and fortune. I must have all of the things!
