Hi guys,

I made my power system run off one small forestry multi tree farm (the smallest one) and I was wondering if I can run a boiler with just the wood I get? And what kind of boiler I can? I don't know alot about these so I can't figure it out by myself :s

e: Turning the logs to planks either using xycraft fabricators to craft 4 planks or sawmills to make 6

Well I got that figured, but I ment what size of boiler (18, 27, 36 or whatever there are) and what type (lp/hp)?

you're better off useing Thermal expansions sawmill to turn it into planks than using either logs or charcoal.

thought about xycraft fabricators to turn them to logs. I guess I should have said that in first post. hm

don't :p the sawmill will give you 6, and you can use the sawdust in the fabricator, turn it into charcoal, and use it to fuel the sawmill (and the furnace that turns it into charcoal)

Hmm true.

But the real question is still there. Can I power a 36 Lp (got not much steel) with just that small farm?

planks 0,3k heat and coal 1,6k heat. Or did they change these numbers in 1.5?

And if planks give less heat, then they nerfed planks, not sawmills

planks are 0.3k and charcoal are 1.6k and coal are 3.2k. planks are the best if you want to use sawmills, but then you have to deal with the sawdust. next best are charcoal with either powered furnaces or furnaces powered by the wood. the easiest to use would be xycraft fabricators with regular 4 planks.

I like to use charcoal for the energy density it provides. Much easier to transport/store the amount you need to fire up a boiler or just manually feed some engine if you don't have to carry as much.

Contrary to popular belief neither planks nor sawmills have been nerfed, this was confirmed by KL himself in a thread from a while ago. I don't know for sure if a single smallest multifarm can power a 36hp boiler, though I'd imagine it probably can. Be sure to build up a large supply of planks before switching your boiler on just in case.

for me i just built a 2x2 low pressure boiler and a xycraft fabricator along with an MFR 5x5 treefarm and 8 hobbyists steam engines (early game) and that was all i needed. it's a pretty cheap early game power source if you don't want to have to insert wood into all the steam engines with pipes. i still have extra wood filling up a DSU and probably will continue to have extra when i upgrade to 36LP. not sure about HP though
