Is there a way to make a stable dense ores age? Not really ready for the deep dark yet atm, I don't have the infrastructure for it, but I need a little more ore than I get in a normal age.

Thanks.

Back when I last played with Mystcraft i'm pretty sure ALL dense ore ages were unstable.

This may have changed since I last used it (1.5.2) though.

Depends on how stable you need it to be. Instability is weird. They rarely cause those good ol' grey goo style scenarios anymore, since there are instability mechanics beyond decay now. But even so, not everyone wants a world that is even slightly unstable. Er, sorry, seemingly no one wants a world that is even slightly unstable.
But there are ways to deal with instability. First off, double check your new world. Is there decay? If so, crap, make a better age. If not, you should be fine. But if it still bugs you, grow some rainbow trees from Rainbow Forest, a mod by Reika. They apparently stabilize any age.

Then you should be fine. Unless you go over the cap on dense ores by like 50, you shouldn't have much instability.

...Plus, didn't dense ores get nerfed to all hell even before instability meant something more then decay? Modders had to register their ores with MystCraft for them to generate with dense ores.

Unless that was changed, not sure why one would use dense ores.

throw in a bunch of bad things that increase stability, scortched earth style

though, if you have RotaryCraft in your back, make an extractor setup...you'll never need dense ores after that :D

Yeah, but then one can't use Rainbow Trees to make it safer...

quarry in DO age, running product through extractor.
you will be set for iron, despite the MASSIVE requirements of Reikas mods.

No need for a dense ores mystcraft age to be safe. Add the bad traits that only affect above the surface. Dig now 5-10 levels and stick the quarry there. Now you are safe :D

Some affect below the surface, though. Mob Regeneration, Mining Fatigue, etc etc. Meteors are strong contender for such a thing as well, since they explode when they land(thus can ruin a age even if you are far below ground).
The list can go on for ages.

I normally use meteors...by the time the area I was mining in was "ruined"...it was time to move to a few new chunks anyway. Though, I use the term "normally" very loosely...since the last time I used it was in 1.5. I see no reason for dense ores anymore...with multiple ways to x3, x4, x5 your ore...

Ditto. With all these great ore processors we have, why use Dense Ores?

Stabilized dense ores age used to be the bee's knees for servers. Quarry there then don't ask. Now we've moved on to deep dark for mining.

I dunno, lots of mods offer different ways to get to similar goals. Tico gives us 2x ingots via smeltery if we don't need it *right now*, TE can safely 3x, RotaryCraft has ways to hit 5x, etc.

The method to GET the ore though is usually the challenge. :):)

You forgot Mek and it's 5x ore processing. And RotaryCraft only gets 5x on average. And only on "common" ores.

Well since the thread is already starting to derail.
Don't forget the deep dark! Place max size quarry there and you're all set for a while
