After one too many nights with spiders on my (fully lit) roof, I wondered whether spiders would be thwarted by there being an over-hanging block at the top of the wall.
They are. So, I wrapped the outside edge of the top of the wall of my entire house in cover strips.
Presumably, the spider's pathing interprets the coverstrip as a whole block at the top of the wall and to get around it the spider would have to travel whilst adhering to an upside down surface, which they can't do.
Spiders now climb the wall, hit the cover strip and fall to the ground.
