Sphax Texture Pack for MONSTER-1.09 - can I mix resolutions?

So i want to install the Sphax Texture pack with MONSTER.

can I mix the Sphax 512x512 pack with the MONSTER ADDON 128x128 pack?

heh. I tried it. and minecraft has been thinking about loading it for about 9 minutes now.

I have a pretty decent computer. so that shouldn't be the issue.

or do the all the texture packs have to be the same size?
 
You can indeed mix textures. Many mod textures by are 32x.

A heavily modded minecraft and a 512x texture pack would really bring many computers to their knees. Why not just use 128x all over?
 
heh. yeah. I reduced down to 128 all over, and modified the RAM limit to 8G and the same 8G in the java arguments.

it seems to work then.

before uping the ram, I ran into issues with the Zan's Minimap not showing. but with more than 2G ram it worked. Using 8G of my available 16G

That is WAY too much, never allocate more than 4GB to Java unless you are getting OOMEs (OutOfMemoryExceptions)
The Java garbage handler is awful, which means that more RAM = Java slowing down
 
i was experiencing issues at 4G, it was doing intermittent hard shudders. my computer by way can play BF4 on 3 monitors of eyefinity.. when I put the Ram up to 8G it does well. I'm running a set of 128 textures.
