I still don't see the advantage of that. Especially when you'd have to deal with thaumcraft to get that pick.
There's a whole dimension in it for you if you do this.
Plus, y'know, bedrock by your house.

The Awakened pick from thaumic tinkerer does not give you the bedrock. Only breaks it. You need a bedrock breaker from rotary craft to get legit bedrock.

Huh. Why does TT edit Bedrock, then, I wonder...

o_O I mined for like 3 hours with just a hardened capacitor with my pick(Btw you get 7 total modifiers with thaum, paper, diamond+gold, nether star which comes up to 5 for speed with a cobalt head that gives 51 28 speed(?) at 8 4 speed per level of haste) though I was caving since ore spawns make strip mining sorta crappy nowadays.

My strip mining has changed but is functional the same. Use a hammer and mine a straight line for (X) blocks return to beginning and put on the Sonar goggles from Extra Utilities then walk down the tunnel and mine away. Start another tunnel 12 blocks away and start over again. So stop mining but you can see a 13 block wide area every tunnel.

I'm fairly certain that TiC tools do not benefit from speed beacons (but it might just be me)

Eerm, do you mean haste?
The difference is so minor between the two names that it's impossible to get them right unless you're totally alert or totally on the ball with the difference.

And I find that hard to believe; the haste upgrade(which is the golden pickaxe buff) increases swing speed on tools, reducing the re-use rate on them, thus allowing you to break blocks a bit faster. It's minor unless your tool is in a sort of "sweet spot" where even 1 level of Haste makes the block break at least half a second sooner(or if you have a high level of haste, it can be be a less fast tool and be just as noticeable). Ideal locations to test this is on Obsidian without a insanely good tool that breaks it almost instantly.

Yes, a diamond pick with efficiency is slightly faster than a top tier TiCo pick. The thing is, hammers exist. Once you have a hammer (even just an iron one), the ability to mine 3x3 completely outstrips vanilla tools. The only thing you really need a pick for is silk touch.

You can't put silky jewels on hammers?

You could indeed!
I've got Fortune III on my hammer, though, and occasionally I might want to silk touch the redstone ore next to the diamonds I want to Fortune. That said, I'd rather build than dig, so I don't actually mine much at all, once I've got a quarry up :p

Why put up a quarry when you can BE the quarry?

Oh right, automation...
