I finally dove into redpower today. Decided to replace my primitive bc sorting system with a more modern version.

I have a quarry running in a mystcraft world dumping items into an enderchest. It's companion in the overworld is in my item sorting room.

Attached the sorter, powered it up, set it to sent dirt, cobble, sand and gravel off one direction to some barrels and everything else is supposed to go into a set of chests for manual sorting (for now).

It worked long enough to pull out one stack of dirt then quit and I can't get it to start again.

Some ss hopefully to help:

[DOUBLEPOST=1357005728][/DOUBLEPOST]Edit: I had another white tube connecting the chests, but thought maybe it confused the system so I broke it off temporarily.

a) you don't need the button, the mode you set your sorter to will make it pull automatically (I think).
b) is your batbox charged enough? (nvm your sorter has power, I'll just leave this here anyways in case someone else forgets about it)
c) is the diamond chest filled completely?

If you paint the tube above the black tube black, then put the gravel, sand, and dirt in the black line you don't need those different colors. Since RP tubes are nice enough to know about barrels.

You also don't need to paint the entire line of tubes white. Just one tube before it gets to the chests, and only white items will go to those chests.

Hmm, should work though.

a- I only put the button there to test, it's supposed to work automatically the way it's set.
b- fully charged, I waited on that before posting
c- nope, less than a row of stuff left in it.[DOUBLEPOST=1357006582][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'll simplify the system and give it a try.

did something besides one of those four items end up in the machine? put a chest there uncolored and see what pops out

Problem solved, it's working!

After editing the tubes, I had to break and replace the sorter to get it to start.[DOUBLEPOST=1357007106][/DOUBLEPOST]

The way it was set up anything not those 4 items should have gone down the white path.

Ah, you got it to work, good. This is what I meant by simplified tube coloring.

Once the first chest is filled, all white colors will start filling the second chest.

Yes, I like this system MUCH better than the bc pipes.

Next project: improve the sorting. Junk is already sored out, now I need - ores - thaumcraft - xycraft - bees - other misc - then on to automatic processing :)

tubes on barrels dont need to be painted aslong as the path is shorter then the default route i have a 50+ barrel sorting system with 3 default route chest for items not in barrels and a chest for ores to be processed and ive had no problems with it jamming

Also, Filters can be used in-line with the output facing a chest, and it will only accept those things into the chest. This can help keep you from needing as much paint. Basically, it functions as a more varied version of a larger barrel. For example, if you put dirt, cobble, gravel, and sand in the filter... those four items will go into the chest.

Then you organize the chest so you have however many rows dedicated to each item, with a 'placeholder' of a single piece in each slot. From there, you can have an 'overflow' default location that eventually leads to the scrap machines.

You'll probably want a catch-all place where things it doesn't know what to do with goes to, of course, but hey... looks like you've got a solid start.

Unfortunately, I ran out of diamonds and redstone building stuff. My max size quarry is only at level 37 so I have a few more hours until I start getting to the good stuff then I can get some more advanced machinery built and set up my farms. My primary focus was getting the solar powered quarry up and running because eventually I'll get the resources I need for everything else. Now that I don't have to babysit my item room so much I have more time for other things!

I still have other things to do- I'm manually mining marble for my house and basalt for my mage tower I'll post some pics later after I've made some more progress.

How would I go about sucking cobblestone out of the bottom of my barrel?

I've tried transposers and filters but can't get any action. The tube system is feeding into the top of 3 recyclers in another room. Blue wires don't connect to them so I assume they don't need power.

Unfortunately, what you need isn't a Transposer, which only works if *DIRECTLY* attached to it, but a Retriever, which does require Bluetricity. Failing that, put the barrel directly on top of your transposer, and it should work.

It works now with the transposer directly underneath the barrel. Now to tackle pulling the scrap out of the recyclers :)

Does anybody have a link to a good redpower guide I can read? Watching videos doesn't help in learning this stuff at all.

I use one retriever to pull out scraps from all my 5 recyclers, I think it's the easiest way to do that :)

the retriever works from a distance, you only need to keep in mind that the side with the big hole is the pulling side and the other side is the pushing side

I've tried "retrieving" from both the top and bottom, no luck. The selector button on both settings. I can see the retriever move when I flick the lever- it just won't retrieve. The paint was a desperate attempt to try anything to get it to work:) Any advice?
